Beginning frtm its sources the river is contaminated with organic material which
favours the development of the microflara; the bacterial pollution increases down-
streams and self -purification is inhibited by the continual affluence of tributaries.
The bacteriological condition is worst in the regions where flooding regularly oc-
curs. It may be expected that the reteidion and sedimentation in the basin up-
stream of the barrage which is to be established will have a favourable influence
on the bacteriological condition of the river. Continual bacteriological control re-
mains necessary.

ABSTRACT: The author presents some results of an analysis of three prominencog 1
observed on 10 September 1965. Two observations lasted about 11 min each, the
third, about 30 min; they were recorded on a large coronograph at an angle of

moving from the coronal space towards the chromosphere, and one Bhow,.-d a violent
eruption. The motion and trajectory of the knots or threads in individual prominenc
are shown. The volume, mass velocity of knots and streamers, acceleration of eath
prominence, energy distribution over the trajectory, and, in some cases, the force
acting upon the knots and streamers of mass are all analyzed in detail. Prominence.
I consists of 3 knots moving from coronal space in the chromosphere. The trajectorie
of these knots and the velocity distribution as a function of time are shown in figures~
in the original article. The description of the other two prominences includes the
total force as calculated for a number of knots and also the unknown force compone
determined from it. Prominence 2 has a more complex structure than prominence
1; it contains 5 knots moving toward the chromosphere, some melting into ambient
space. Prominence 3 is structurally the most complex, with two maxima and
9 distinct knots, the maximum velocity of which is about 650 km/sec, a motion of
short duration because of very intense magnetic fields. More detailed results are
