A study on the basis of a 2-year observation of the state of health of workers in a
coal-mine (4,0010 individuals were examined). The investigations showed a lower
percentage of diseases of cardio-vascular system among pit workers as compared
with those working on the surface (probably due to selection on admission to the
mine). The most frequent disease in miners is disease of the cardiac muscle and
the next in frequency of occurrence is hypertension. In the diseases of the cardiac
muscle the most responsible factor for the disease is manual work.
