Sofia, Suvremenna Meditsina, Vol 14, So 5, 1963; pp 16-10.
Abstract : Data on 296 patients with meninhococcal meningitis 1954 -
1962: 226 received penicillin, vitamins, Ikortigen' (cortisone?),
sulfonamides, plasma; and 70 penicillin with streptomycin or other
antibiotics. Only side effects were a few cases of dermatitis; minor
neurologic sequelae of the primary disease in 3. Seven of the 70 died.
Of 929 cases of scarlet fever treated with penicillin (200 to 400,000
units daily for 5 days) 1957-1960, 25 had complications.

TITLE: Catalysis by Metal Vapors. 1. Catalytic Properties of
Zinc- ana-cadmium Vapors
PERIODICAL: Zhurnal fizicheskoy khimii, 1960, Vol. 54, No. 8,
pp. 1728-1733
TEXT: To establish the influence of a carrier on tae catalytic activity,
the authors investigated the catalytic properties of compact, deposited, IV
and vaporous metals (Cd metal, Cd/S102, Zn/S102, Cd vapor. Zn vapor),
as well as of corresponding semiconductors (containing Zno. ZnS, CdO as
impurities). The present paper describes the first of these investi-
gations dealing with vaporous zinc and cadmium, Tne catalytic activity
was determined in a high-vacuum plant (Fig. 1) on the dehydragenation of
methanol (CH30H -`CO + H2)- It was found that Od and 7-n, in vapor
phase, catalyze the methanol decomposition, i.e. also ~he metal atoms
isolated from the crystal lattice maintain their catalytic properties,

Properties of Zinc- and Cadmium Vapors Bol~/ B054
The kinetic curves (Figo 3) show that the catalytic activity of :d vaporq
is lower than that of Zn vapors. Investigations of the abgorption
spectrum of the reaction ampul before and after the expe-riment with a
PlP-2 (ZMR-2) mirror monochromator, as well as examinations of the
influence of the reaction surface, showed (Table) that the solid phase
of the two metals shows no catalytic action, but that ~he reaction ie
mainly catalyzed by the metal vapor. An addition of water vapor strongly
reduces the catalytic action of Zn vapor. Experiments. the results of
which are published in the following paper, showed that tne catalytic
properties of Zn and Cd atoms do not piactically charge by the action of
a carrier, and with partial incorporation into the ryslal latlicoe of a
semiconductor. Thus, it is assumed that the metal atom ir metallic and
semiconductor catalysts has an "autonomous structure" whose 2atalytic
properties are determined by the structure of its own elertron 3hell,
and not by the electron properties of the crystalline -ar-ier, Tne~re ar,?

Abstract This is a case of a three-year old fem&le infant with the
syndrome of adrenocortical hyperfunction. Beginning at
3 months there was rapid weight gain, deposition of fat
on the trunk and face, hyperten ion, and hypertrichosis
with growth of hal on the forehead, cheeks, upper lip
and around the genitalia. A ti r the size of a fist was
detected in the left renal area. There was an increased

The patient died teom cystopyelitis with dyspepsia
which complicated the min illness. The autopsy re-
vealed an adrenocortical tumor which was an atypical
cancer of the adrenal cortex with vast zones of reti-
