ABSTRACT: The study of the complexes was made by onectrophoto-
.metrical analysis. The complexes are mixtures-of chlorides and
'chlorates. When NaC103 is added to a solution of CuG1 .in
-acetone and thu system of complexes CuCl -NV.C103 _GH 301CH 3 is i
-formeds, the absorption curve in the visibie band doa; not
.change; there is only an increase of the intensity of absorption,
~The chlorate groups may provide the ligands in the complexes
,land replace acetone in this function; the complexes have several
icomponents and are relatively stable. A now absorption band for Co
Ahlorates ata maximum of 592nm was-found. At the same time

where I3fm is the amplitude of the a.ca" component of 3 phaae short
circuit, I2fm is the amplitude of the a.c. component of 2 phase
short circuit. Graphs are shown illustrating how the a.c. component
varies with the instant of make. Possibility of d.c. component
> 100% of a.c. c'omponent was shown. Th~ author draws attention to
the requirements for making switches, Areferably single-phase units
individually controlled, to delay the rAake of the last phase. He
mentions the effect of pre-arcing and'necesiaty of low contact ero-
sion to obtain accuracy of make. The at~thor"Vroves that the third
pole of the making switch should have Wcontact gap dielectric
strength-F3 times greater than that ofAhe other two poles or that
the speed of travel should be Y5 -times 60 'eater. The effect of damp-
ing on surge current is considered. The'analypis shows that the
damping should be carefully dealt withl4nd that large transformers
--and generators often have lower damping, than envisaged. Graphs are

and 50 - 1600 kVA at lower voltages. Increase of short circuit
current due to nonsimultaneous short circuits ib shown. The author
quotes Czechoslovakian test standards and discusees test toleran-
ces of the spread of nonsimultaneous mAking and states that from a
large number of tests the delay between the poles of a combined
3 phase making switch was never above 10 milliseconds. For 3 single
phase switches used on very high voltages this spread is lower.
The author concludes that reduction of1tolerance on making times
would be advisable and stresses the 14;rtance of nonsimultaneous
short circuits and t-heir effects especi4lly in design of rectifier
transformers. There are 10 fi ureso

ABSTRACT VIII. It has been established that anthranilic
acid (II) can be substituted for aniline in the
photometric determination of 1, with the result
that the need for the addition of mineral acids
or of acetic acid is eliminated. The red color
produced by the reaction of I and II in stable in
the cold over a period of 120 min and is charac-
terized by values of ), ~min) = 47U and A (max)
a 530 mA . The Beir law is observed for concen-
trations of 1 in the solution from 0.005 to 5%.

Abstract: Continuation of study of alanine formation as an index of
Tr-ansaminase activity in mitochondria and 4 subfractions, membrane and
supernatant (30,000 G). The enzymes differed from those in the liver by
sensitivity to pH. The ubiquity of GABA makes it unlikely that the substance
is a specific inhibitor in the rat central nervous system. Graph,
