ABSTRACT: 7he interaction between the ship and a section of the berth can be de-
scribed with sufficient degree of accuracy by a system of five differential equations*
No account is taken here of the listing of the ship and of the resistance of the water

the ship during the time of impact exerts no noticeable influence (the error does not
exceed 3%). 7he use of this assumption makes it possible to break the system of dif-
ferential equations into two parts. By solving one part of the system., it is possible
to determine the force acting on a compartment and its transverse deformation* In-
tegration of the second part of the system makes it possible to determine the elemeatn
Of the longituAinsa displacement of the conpartment.' An analysis of the theoretical
solution and of the "mats of laboratory tests leads to the conclusion that several

ABSTRACT: The principle task of this experimental investigation was to de-
temine the electric resistance of fil-iform silver single crystals at roan
temperature down to 1-77 - 4.2 K. The diffusion scattering of conduction elec-
trons from the surface as a result of changes in whisker diameter was also
under study. The effect of various temperatures on the specific resistance
t wan ccmpared for silver wires and whiskers. The authors describe the method
and equipment used in this study and the conditions under which it was carried
out, as well as the techniques used to prepuv the specimens. The minimum of

Abstract A method is described for determination of the rate
of formation Of CS2 by passing sulfur vapor through
granulated carbonaceous materials. Formation Of CS2
on charcoal made from sugar or birchwood and on
anthracite was investigated. The effects of temperature,
grain size of carbon, and addition of alkali metal salts
are discussed. Five tables, 7 diagrams,.19 references

Abstract; The investigation -- a continuation of a series
attempting to determine whether biological changes occur-
ring in sclerosis originate in the blood or in the walls
of the blood vessels -- deals with the study of the factor
responsible for a third line of precipitation in immuno-
electrophoretic tests. It was established that it also ap-
pears in extracts of the aorta of deceased sclerotic pa-
tients. but since it is more discernible in the blood, the
assumption is made that It originates there and -- under
certain circumstances -- passes into the wall of the ves-
sels. 7here are 13 references, of w1iich 3 are Polish,
LLUwr in Germrn, and eight are Western.

TEXT: The author generally describes and calculates the average permissible
error in relief shaping of topographical maps. Or. a topographical map 1 : 10,OM
the average error of 1 2 m does not mean that larger errors are not present. Ac-
cording to the Koppe formula-the average error of contour height is mw = � (mh +
+ mp tgcA), where mh = height error, mp = location error. According to Heissle?s
assumption, for I : 15,000 photographs mh = 0.6; mp = 1-5 m and mw = t (0.6 +
+ 1.5 tgoL). After substituting given valiies the inclination angle of the ter-
rain is obtained in meters, mw. If these values where to be changed Or linear
shift, then mi will be: mi = t (mh ctgaL + mp); ml - t (0.6 otgoL + 1-5). As is
seen from the above, these magnitudes are larger especially for flat, 00 - 60,
and rolling ground, 60 - 200. However, the location of contour should shift only
by the thickness of line, 0.2 - 0.3 mm. Flat ground presents greater difficulty

and in some cases It is necessary to shift contour location by more than 0.2 -
0.3 mm. This shift does not alter the height error. However, accurate and fre-
quent height spotting eliminates errors and gives accurate location of contours.
The second difficulty terrain where the preparation of a manuscript map is diffi-
cult are woodlands and covered ground. Investigations showed that maps of wood-
lands are prepared 2 - 3 times less accurately than those of flat ground. In
such case the topographer should have sound knowledge of hydrography, and meas-
urements should be made during summer when the water level Is lowest. As an ex-
ample the author compares three manuscript maps representing woodland Pnd rivulet
courses. There are 3 tables and 5 figures.

necessity arises to evaporate a solution until it is completely
dry, as, for instance, when determining the alkali metal content
in zinc salts, cobalt, manganese, etc. - For this purpose a solu-
tion is dried out under an infrared lamp. The device concerned
consists of a aluminum body and the infrared lamp. By increasing
or reducing the distance between the lamp and the vessel it is
