Measures, including treatment of patients and chemoprophylaxis of the healthy
during the season of transmission, were applied in the Rushan district, Gorno-
Badakhahanak Autonomic Region. This district is engaged in silk-breeding and in
heavily infected by a complicated combination of malarial forms. In autumn all
premises in the -zone were treated with DDT, while the population received chino-
cide after discon.11nuation of chemoprophylaxis. The incidence of malaria decreas-
ed 43-fold in one. year. The foci which had formerly been heavily infected showed
pronounced decrease of the Incidence of malaria. The leading role In the achieve-
ment of these results to attributed to chinocide.

graficheskoy fabrike 25 let)

ABSTRACT: The Institute was established in 1934 and was conducted by
V. F. Shirokov, who later on became Chief Engineer of the
Institute, and now has retired from service. A short survey
of the development of the Institute is given here. The follow-
ing persons entered the Institute in 1036-38: 0. A. Beloglazo-
Iva, 14. A. Yakimova, L. I. Markova, 0. N. Plyusnina, N. F. Ni-
kolenko, N. Ye. Rellnikova. All except for the last-mentioned
are editors now, and.Q.N. Plyusnina is Chief Editor. In Septea-
ber 1941, the Institute accepted some experts evacuated from
Moscow, was equipped with new wachines, and was extended con-
siderably. In 1942, 0. N. Plyusnina , T. 1. Markova and M. I.
Svinarenko were awarded ord~ra. Daring the war, tho map of
the USSR on a scale of 1:1000000 was prepared. In this work
took part: the Editors 0. A. Beloglazova, N. F. Ilikolenko,

in 1948. Among the 32 sheets of the hypsometric map of the USSR
of 1;2500009 18 sheets were wade by this Institute. The follow-

A. Maslatsova, V. I. Solodukho. The elaboration of results was
directed by M. K. Seypullnik, the correctors were A. A. Liva-
nova and A. V. Loga~hev. The following people were awarded
the Stalin Prize of 2nd Class for the preparation of this map
in 1951: 1. P. Zarutskaya, Chief Editor of this map, V. P.
Zenkovich, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, 0. A. Beloglazova,
L. I. Uarkova and N. F. Hikolenko, editors. The 2nd edition
of the map of the USSR of 10000000 was compiled and printed
in 1950-54. 37 maps of the section "USSR" in the World Atlas
Card 2/3 were compiled and printed in the same period -by the Institute.

In the inap series for universities, the hypsometric district
maps "Ural and Priurallyell, "Altay-Sayany" and the hypso-
metric map of the USSR of 1:4000000 in the series of physical
maps were compiled here. General-geographic maps of the USSR
of 1:25000001 10000000, and 1%10000000, school maps of the
industry of the USSR, atlas of road maps of the USSR, atlas
of railroad maps of the USSR, were made here in subsequent
years. The measures taken in recent years for improving and
oxiending the equipment are pointed out; in-1950, N. M. Teresh-
kin designed a hand-semiautomatic machine for sticking the en-
velopes to contour maps. The following highly qualified ex-
perts working at present at the Institute are mentioned. the
Technical Editor Ye. S. Kuzin, the Copyist V. K. Nechayev,
the Printers A. V. feremina, Ye. Ye. Mellnikova, and S. P.
Pakhomov, the Energeticist M. A. Lyubovnik, the Engraver L. V.

Abstract The.authors made observation tests of anthracite

burning in the TS-30 boiler (30 t/
3750C built by the Taganrog Plant). The boiler
furnace, equipped with chain-grate stoker without
fall-throughs and designed for burning assorted hard
coal, did not generate the expected amount of steam
when unassorted anthracite was used. The authors
describe results of their observation supplementing
it with a chart of the boiler's performance, and
suggest certain means for improvement. Two
diagrams.
