ABSTBACT: Specimens of the plant Vinca erecta., coliected in Southern Uzbekistan,
Woro used for cold other extraction of alkaloids, which were then divided into
phonolic and nonphonolic fractions. This ramated in the subsequent isolation
of a now phenol base, vincrzlm~ (C20 0 14,Z) (molpo 134-135PC)*which Is unstable
to light or vhon it solution.. and con s one OCH3 group and tw;o active H
Ato= ono of wh1th is -a phenol. This nmi base caused a pronouncod levorotation
of polarized - lights which points to the presence of a chromophore of alpha-
nothylonoindol-ine connootod to a caiboxathoxyl group. Of the three oVzons
.present it vizorAno, one is a phenol by&-oxyl and two, are esters, Heating
vinoryino iv ansealod and evacuated ampoulo with 13% HC1 for 2.5 hr at 100'DC
.led to the formtion of a crystalline indolordne base with a Taelting point of
.18-5-187,DC, wbich proved to be identical to the indolerAne base obtained from
vineanidine (another base present in V. erecta). The Investigation of the

were used besides antibiotics. The last 2 methods appeared to be the most effec-
tive. They shortened the period of intoxication and the course of the disease. They
are recommended in all cases of typhoid fever in children.
