TITLE; Study of the preparation of nickel powder by electrolysis
-SOURCE: Por9shkovaya metaHurgiya, no. 7, 1966, 1-9
TOPIC TAGS: electrolyte, nickel powder, electrolytic nickel
ABSTRACT: Theautbors investigated the possibility of increasing the current
yield and stal3ility of the electrolyte for obtaining nickel powder. The sulfate-
chloride electrolyte was found to lower the power expenditure of the process fdr
obtaining electrolytic nickel powder and to reduce the cost. The optimum'of the
composition of-the electrolyte and the conditions for optimum electrolysis are given
for a current of 90-941o yield. It is suggested that these conditions for obtaining

TEXT The temperature of soluti63i of niobium enrbide in
low-carbon manganese steel, as well as the rejection of-a special
carbide duringtempering, was investigated for several heats
produced in a 250 kSinduction furnace with a basic crucible.
Composition twt.'/a): 0.16/0.15 C,0-75/1,28 Fln, 0.26/o.29 Si,
0-036/o.o5o's, 0.020 P and 0.08-0.29 Nb. The produced 65 kg
ingois were rolled into.11 x 70 inm strip from which 80 x 5#5 Inm
cylindrical and 10 x 10 x 5 min polished specimens were cut in the
longitudinal direction. The carbide transformations were studied
by electron diffraction (reflection method) by measuring the
electric resistivity (accuracy 1.5VO, the cc 'ercive force

800, 900, 1000, .1100 and 1.200OC; hardened-from 1200% followed by
annealing.for thiee hours in -the temperature range 200-6000C
(in steps of 1000C). 14iobium carbide was found to dissolve above
1100'C; steels with equal fib contentsbut higher Mn contents
ahowed a sharp rise in the coercive force for hardening tempera-
tures in the range of 900-12000C. This indicates that an
increased.bin content in the steel brings about dissolution of the
carbide phase associated with a special carbide. In all the
investigated steels thedecomposition of the solid solution began
at tempering temperatures above 200'C, whereby iron carbide formed
first and then, at higher tempering temperatures-(400'C for the
steel containing 28%o _Mn and. 6oooc for steel with 0.73'/0* Mn),
niobium carbide began to form. With Increasing tempering tempera-
tures the coercive force decreased and, due to the effect of Nb
carbide formation, the decrease in the range 400-600*C was less
for Nb-containing steel than for Nb-free steels. The change in
hardness In the tempering temperature range 400-500% is similar
to the change in coercive force; addition of Nb impedes the drop
in hardness and at 600'C there was even a slight increase in
hardness. There are 3 figures and 2 tables*

A ABSTRACT: The authors study the effect of 0.023 and 0.052% Hf on the properties of
-15~2 steel. The steel-was subjected to mechanical tests in thehot-rolled, quenched
and annealed states. The addition Hf in the given quantities has no considerable
effect on the mechanical-propertied?fand microstructure, but retards austenite grain
growth noticeably at temperatures >11500C. Bibliography of 2 titles. I. Strebkov.

ABSTRACT: The passive filmwas isolated from specimens by a method developed by the
authors.- Flat 5Ox25x5 m specimens were used.- After polishing on paper, rinsing in water,
degreasing with acetone and etching in a mixture of cone. RN03, HF and HC1 with subsequent
thorough rinsing in distilled water and drying, the specimens were passivated at 60*C for 30
min in 5% HNO, containing 0. 6% K2Cr20 . Prior to the separation of the film a network of
scratches was produced on the surface olihe specimen. Ile specimen was then placed for
18-22 hr in a solution of 10 cc of bromine and 100 cc of methyl alcohol, after which 1twas
