Erythrocytes removed from human serufa) 'and s*uspended in a 1% Nan solution were gamma irradiated with 40 andi ';8o kr (looo r/min) doses. After cooling, the erythrocyte suspensions~-- yere treated with a lo-3 M solution of one of 11 antibiotics consi- .dered to be possible inhibitors of hemolysis, Results for both the ;Lcard -1/-3 L 2675-66 'ACCESSION NR: A0 arid 80 kr doses largely coincided, except for oleandomyoin. Auroont streptomycins isochlortetrao3reline., aureonamide and mycerin had .,protective effects and most of the others were hemolytics. In the ~phototest the erythrocytes were sensitized with pigment and subJectedi ~to 11ght, Auroon,, aureonamidev stroptomycin, and oleandomycin dis- : played some protective offocta, In another series the radioprotoctivo effoat of antibiotics was studied in relation to -bhoir effect on the I redox potential of the erythrocyte suspension measured with a 1poto,ntiometor, Aureon.. aureonamidep streptomyein,, and oleandomycin i ~exertod the highest deprosscuat effect on this potential, Further ;test:s on the optical density of erythrocyte solutions revealed no ,direct connection between the affect of antibiotics on optical ':,density and their protective effect on erythrocytes# It was concluded .that the protective effect of these antibiotics is related to their depressant effect on the redox potential and their neutralization of ,aqueous and organic peroxides. .Orig. art. has: 3 figures and 1 :tableo ASSOCIATION: Moskovskiy gosudarstvennyy universitet im, M, V, Lomonosova (Moscow State University) Card CA L 26-75-& IP5" ACCESSION NR: 021290 SUBMITTED: 22oot64 ENCL: 00 ITR IREF BOV: 00i OTHER: 001 Card 3/3 SUB CODE: LS L 3281-66 EWTLIJ ACC N11, AP6020240 SOURCE CODE: UR/'0325/65/OOO/C04/OO94/OC~6;' AUTHOR: Kriper, Yu. After the irradiation the yeasts were washed 'With distilled -water from the surface of the agar, diluted, and planted in glass Petri dishes filled with agar, The chlortetracycline derivatives used in the ox- periments were isochlortetracycline, dedimethylaminoaureorqcinic acid, aureonamide, aureon, anhydrochlortetracycline, and chlortetracycline methyl- -iodide. The protective propextics of the 4ntibioties won tested by treating L 31281. ACC Ngs the solid modium vith the preparations ir a concentration of 10-4 H in a five percent solution of ethyl alcohol 20 minutes prior to the irradiation of the A. yeasts. The antibiotics i&,en used in the above concentration are not toxic, while the ethyl alcohol in the forru of a 5,1o solution is not radioprotective. The data obtained in the exper-Inonts established that &U-of the mentioned chlortetracycline derivatives have a low degree of bactericidal activity; ~11, however,, possesz, radioprotective proportion, with the degree of these properties varying, depending on the antibiotic used. The experiments thus established that there is no relationship between the bactericidal and radioprotective properties of the antibiotics. Black tin plates having a thickness of W = 0.3 - 0.5 mm were used as samples. Test results showed that the cathode plates ivere bent during the pro- oess of electrolysis, and that also the strength of elactTrode-posits differed correspondingly. A.- TITLE: Silicon controlled rectifiers PERIODICAL: Akademiya nauJc UzSSR. Izvestiya. Seriya tekhniches- kikh nauk. No. 1, 1962, 19-27 TEXT: The operating principle, design, characteristics and some practical circuit-diagrams of silicon controlled rectifiers are considered, Pirst, 5emiconductor devices with negative resistance are classified according to the current-voltage characteristic, niunber of electrodes, conductivity and design. The silicon recti- fier under consideration has a p-n-p-n structure, whereby the ex- ternal p and n layers are connected to the anode and cathode res- pectivelyt and the internal p-layer to the control electrode. In order to explain the operating principle of the p-n-p-n rectifier, it can be considered as consisting of 2 parts; a triode of p-n-p type with common base, and an n-p-n triode with a common collector. Formulas are derived for the currentgain. It is shown that the to- Card 1/ 4 33705 S/167/62/000/001/002/004 Silicon controlled rectifiers D299/D304 tal gain of the device is larger than unity and that the current- voltage characteristic has a negative region.. A figure shows the current-voltage characteristics of the rectifier as a function of the control current. If the latter is fairly large, the characte- ristic is quite similar to that of a p-n rectifier. The resistance of the device (when in a conducting state) is 0,,05 ohm with a cur- rent of 20 amp., and 0.02 ohm with a current of 50 amp* The maxi- mum power which such a device can control, is determined by the pro- duct VBo'ILmax-' where VBo is the "reversal" voltage and I Lmax the permissible load current. The parameters of the device and those of a thyratron are compared in a table. Another table liats the para- meters of silicon controlled rectifiers (of the firm G. E.). Two circuit diagrams are shown, of a.c. and d.c. switches respectively. The a.c. circuit is characterized by: a) the absence of' movable contacts; b) the power required for control does not depend on the power of the load; c) it is not sensitive to changes in the load- power faclllor2 it operates at voltages of the order of 115 V and currents up to 50 amp., it can control a power of up to 5 kilowatt. Card 2/4 33705 3/167/62/000/001/002/004 Silicon controlled rectifiers D299/D304 The d.c. circuit can al.so.control a power of up to 5 kilowatt. The use of silicon controlled rectifiers is very promising in con- trolling the speed of d.c. motors. Such a speed-control system is shown in a figure. The use (in the system) of a practically in- ertialess commuter, controlled by,the rectifier, permits select- ing sufficiently high commutation-frequencies (up to several kilo- cycles). As compared to other switching elements, silicon recti- fiers have small weight, short switching time, low resistance in the conducting state and high resistance in the non-conducting; they permi't carrying out a large number of frequent and fast swit___~ ching operations. The high power which can be commuted by means of silicon rectifiers, make it possible to greatly simplify the design of control devices for a.c. and d.c. motors.
