ABSTRACT: The Gosstroi, USSR, issued d-rawings of reinforced concrete columns, series KE -01 - 06, edition 3 and 4, in May, 1956. 30% concrete can be saved in this way (in compari- son with rectangular columns). The height of the section of standardised I - columns is 40, 60 and 80 am, whilst the width is constant (40 am). The flanges are tapered (from 12.5 cm to 10 am). The web is 12 am wide. The reinforcement consists of standard mild steel reinforce- ment-Mark St - 5. It is necessary to check the columns for eccentric stresses which might be caused by seismo- graphic disturbances and gales of exceptional strength. Graphs were prepared taking into account these conditions of stresses indicating the required reinforcement. The graphs are based on NiTU - 123 - 55 for concrete Mqrk 200 and for the reinforcement St" - 5 (R - 2 400 kg/em'). The method of constructing the graphiisaexplained. Examples to illustrate the use of the above graphs are given by calculating typical problems. There are 3 graphs and 4 diagrams. BMIC , Uric I- Seasonal variations in industrial production. The first lunar seismic experiments will attempt to determine seismiLractivity on the Moon, establish velocity profiles, and locate seismic sources. Owing to weight restrictions imposed by the lunar vehicle, the first seismic instrument will probably be a single-component vertical seismograph. It is expected that a seismo-graph-on the Moon perating for a period of 30-60 days, will record numerous lunar tremors from diffeeent parts of the Moonl?'r'esulting in seismog~rams at different epicentral distances. The velocities of seismic waves in the Moon are estimated theoretically on the basis of terrestrial seismic data and experi- mental data on the behavior of rocks under different pressures and temperatures. It is believed that a layer of reduced seismic velocities exists on the Moon and that it Card 1/2 11DC! 521.36 L 29561-66 ACC NRt AP6019675 is more sharply defined than on the Earth. The question of lunar tides and their relation to different internal structure variants of the Moon is examined. The possible presence of a liquid core and resultant magnetic field Is posited and the results of measurements from automatic lunar probes are reviewed. For example, Lunik-2 detected no such field at a distance of 55 km from the surface of the Moon. If the Moon has a dipole magnetic field, then the magnetic moment must be less than 10-4 that-of the Earth. Orig. art. has: 18 figures, 6 tables, and 31 formulas. Analysis of various lunar models suggests the existence of three lunar seismic regions: 1),tbe crust, 2) a layer of decreased velocities, and 3) a liquid core. Lunar seismic activity may be attributable to any of several pro- cesses: a) thermoelastic stresses and other physicochemica.1 processes, b) volcanic activity, and c) meteorite impact. _Zo- eDnotruet-meaningf-'ul-lvnar-t-ra-v--el--tim-e ciii ~es, -the-follcm-ing-dia-ta voixl~ n hav~e_to b~6 obtal ed, 1) the time of seismic wave generation, 2) the arrival time of seismic vaves at-different epicentral distances, and 3) identi fication ol" the differen-& h the seismograms with surface and volumetric waves. apes, on Card 1/2., ACC NR. -AP6001539 The primary goal-of the lunar seismic experiment would be to compile a lunar seismic velocity profile. Comparison of the amplitudes of surface waves with those of longi- tudInal and transverse waves would yield data on both the nature of the waveguides and the temperature digtribution on the moon. The ratio of the wtqplitude of the volumetric and surface imves vould indicate the existence or absence of a sbadov zone or zone of amplitude attenuation on the moon. Were it possible to land a 3-component b on the moon, it vould be possible to compute the location of moonquakes ';I- and the relationship between relief and seismic activity zones. Eventually, It may be possible to conduct lunar explosion soundings. Orig. art. has: 8 figurea. T.,- Engineers TITLE: The Use of Ore Briquettes During Smelting of High Phosphorus Pig Iron (Frimeneniye rudnykh briketov pri peredele vysokofosforistykh chugunov) PERIODICAL: Stall, 1958, Nr 4s pp 303-306 (USSR) ABSTRACT: On smelting high-phosphorus iron in open hearth furnaces the proportion of silica in slag has an important influence on the dephosphorisation process. The relationship can be expressed by the following empirical equation: (F205) 300 Mod +'8-1 Statistical analysis of the works' records indicated that about 50 to " of total silica in slag was introduced with iron ore. As there was a shortage of low silica lump ore, experiments were carried out on the application for this purpose of briquettes made from low silica, iron rich, dusty ores. FiVe heats were carried out in which briquettes Card 1/3containing 5% of silica and 64.6% of total iron viere used 1~3-58-4-7/40 The Use of Ore Briquettes During Smelting of High Phosphorus Pig Iron and for comparison on the same furnaces, normal heats were carried out in which ore containing 7.2% of silica was used. Main technological indices on both grOUDS of heats are shown in Table 1. A decrease in silica concentration in heats with briquettes inc:z~eased the concentration of P 0 in slag and decreased the phosphorus concentration i~ ~he metal. The duration of the melting period decreased -b7 20 min., and refining and tapping b7 32 min. However, on increasing the intensity of blowing oxygen into the bath to 1250 m2/hr the increase of concentration of CaO in slag, lags behind the increase in temperature (Fig.3). An increase of limestone to the charge did not increase the lime concentration in slag during the first two hours of the melting period. Therefore, further experiments (8 heats of rail steel and 4 heats of rimming steei5 were carried out with briquettes containing limestone (Table 2). Main technological indices for the three correspondin6 groups of heats are given in Table 3. Mean duration of heat vRis decreased by 2 hours. ProvidinC briquettes were well heated Card 2/3 the formation of slag was very energetic, initial slags had 133-58-4-7/40 The Use of Ore Briquettes During Smelting of High Phosphorus Pig Iron high concentrations of CaO and low concentrations of FeO. Under these conditiong the bath was blown with oxygen for 1 hour 15 min (1240 m2/hr). A-fter 3 hours slag contained 38.6% CaO and_18 6% P 0 and the metal only 0.32% of phosphorus (kigs:4 82 5 5). It is concluded that the use of briquettes from rich ores considerably improves the dephosphorisation process and decreases the duration of the heat. The following participated in the work: A. G. Some serotype (0-111, 0-260 0-55) intestinal bacteri,0pro%eus vulfaricus,~ stimulants of typhdi&fever, dyseiltdry,-murine t- hus- staphylococcus streptocodcus, and also diphtheridPstimi7ilatorsllrlpl~I hecteria were used! The latter microorganism was shown to be the most sensitive to the u compounds in question. The addition of chlorine atom to the alkyl. radical, or anincrease in the carbon atom number in It does not ' L 29%5-66 ACC NR-AR6004358 increase the antibacteriallaction of amidophosphonoformic esters. The 1 presence of a double bond in the alkyl radical Increases the anti- i bacterial action. The same is true regarding the introduction of a metoxy-group into phenyl radical. Preparation No,16: 3,3dimetoxy- phenyl-4,4-bis-aiiiidophosphonofo~-mia dimethyl ester proved to be the most active of all the investigated phosphorof;omanic cnmpounds,r~ Phos.1 phorilayed hydrazones showed a slight antibacterial action, whereas the acetals are not active at all.
