ABSTRACT*. Trialkyl phosphites react with hydrochlorides of *amines
to-form
dialkyl phosphites, amines, and alkyl chlorides:
(4O)3P+R.,N - HC1 -0 (R0),P(O)11+R31x+ ncl
In turn, dialkyf pliosphites react with amin&s*to f o7~m quaEerna*ry
.ammonium salts:
+ (RO)2P(O)11 (,>P(O)H
B"N
The conditions of the"first reaction are strongly dependent'dn'-
the structure of the amine and phosphite. Temperatures at which
.50% of the trialkyl phosphite reacts in 1-3 hr are given in the
table.-',.

TITLE: On the problem of developing radioactivation methods
for automatic
monitoring of technological processes
PERIODICAL: Akader,4.a nauk Kazakhskoy SSR, Vestnik, no. 11,
196o, 3 - 12
TEXT: The authors present a general survey on the possible
applications of
activation for automatic monitoring using data (Ref. 3, 4)
(Two publications of
the Academy of Sciences of the USSR dating 1954 and 1955) on
nuclear reactions
of el'ements that are frequently present in raw materials of
the chemical and metli-
lurgical industry. Moreover, they comment on the existing
scintillation counters
and protection. Two practical application examples are
discussed: to determine
the concentration of separate elembnts in the flow,
consumption of the elements,
and flow speed (Fig. 1), and to measure the two-phase slurry
in nonferrous metal-
lurgy and some other processes. The first example (Fig. 1)
includes an activator
(neutrons source, A) placed on the pipe surface, and two
counters (n I ahdrl2)-
The activation time will be proportional to the length I AIA
and inversely pro-
portional to the flow speed, while the number of the atoms
of the element in
which the radioactive isotopes are forming will be
proportional to the concentra-

tion of this element. In the second application example, no elements
have-been
found yet that would yield isotopes with half-lives in frgations of
a second, or
even in whole seconds. Silicon 14 SiRd and aluminum 1 Al~-( have a
half-life measuz--
ed in minutes and require longer neutron irradiation ~iian is
possible for activa-
tion in pulp moving in a pipeline. The flotation machine chambers at
concentra-
tion plants are suggested as the place of activation (Fig. 3), with

TITLE: Analysis of the Dusts of the Lead, Copper, and Zinc
Industries
(Analiz pyley svintsovogo, rnednogo i tsinkovogo proizvodstva)
PERIODICAL: Sb. nauchn. tr. Gos. n. -i. in-t tsvetn. met., 1958, Nr
14,
.pp 29-50
ABSTRACT: The analysis of dusts is begun with the determination of
As
and Sb, after which Sn, Se, Te, and Mo are determined. At an
Sb contents of < 0. 50/o the colorimetric method is used with the
violet crystalline [filter (?); Transl. Ed. Note] , or the iodide
method after pre C~ itation of Sb on copper foil. When the Sb
contents is >0. 5 o, the volumetric bromatometric method is
used. In determining Sn, the As is first distilled off in the
form of the trichloride, Sb is precipitated with H2S, then Sn is
precipitated together with Fe.hydroxide by ammonium. The
residue is fused in an iron crucible with a mixture of NaZO2
and NaOH, and the determination of Sn is completed by the
iodometric method. Se is separated from Te, Au, and other

ABSTPACT! The method recommended here consists in determining
copper by
means of iodine fluoride and following complexometric titration,
first with recpect to lead, and later with respect to zinc. Be-
fore the lead titmtion iron, copperr zinc, and cadmium must be
converted into the complex cyanides. By means of formalin it is
possible, in the first line, to destroy the complex cyanides of
zinc and cadmium. This property makes it possible to titrate lead
in the presence of cyanide zinc with trilon, and, after the aadi-
tion of formalin from the same solution , to titrate zinc with the
same trilon. For the purpose of masking calcium, magnesium, and
aluminum, ammonium fluoride is used. The authors further express
their regret that the indicators for the complexometric determina-

'tare nowhere to be found". If they were available, it would be
possible to find out whether they are suited also for
zinc-titration.
With respect to the content of manganese it is said that it
cannot
be maskea either with fluoride or with calcium cyanide; it can be
titrated solely together with lead, and therefore a separate de-
termination of the manganese content by this metiiod is
impossible.
The paper gives tables of results and the process of analysis is
described. There are 2 tables and 6 references, 1 of which is

ABSTRACT: A method o-f concentrating impurities by extracting
them in the form of
dithizonate and hydroxyquinolate compounds was used during the
analysis of high-
purity telluriume The dithizonates and hydroxyquinolates of all
Impuritiess except
gold, were extracted by 95-100% at pH 10o The gold dithizonate
was extracted from a
3 N HG1 solution, Cyclohexanol was added during the extraction
of Al; Cd, Ag, and Co
were extracted into concentrate by 50% on the average. This
required the use of
correction coefficients when determining their amounts. Other
elements were extracted
almost entirely (.-75%)* The analysis of tellurium consisted of
(1) dissolving the
