A diagram of the autoclave exid'its hydraulic system is shown in the figure. The unit-coneisto of casing 5 which is 1800 mm long with an outside di- ameter of 178 mm and an inside.diameter of 90 mm. Plugs 3 with tapered threads are F- screwed into both ends of the casing. Inside each plug is a rod 2 with support plates. An, elastic sealing ring 4 'is, located. between the support plate and the face of the plug. Tension on nut I cMpresses the seal sufficiently for holding the starting pres-- sure. As the pressure increases. the plate compresses.the-ring further to provide re- liable sealing. A thermaeter bulb T and wncmeter tube 11 are-threaded into the top of the casing. The following instruments are laid out on the surface of the Earth: a neutron monitor, two shielded ionization chambers, and counter telescopes recording vertical and oblique cosmic ray components. In addition, counter telescopes placed at depths of 7.20 and 60 m water equivalent record the muonic component in the energy range of 2 .109 -1 1011 ev, whiie the continuous frequenc - 10 recording on latitudinal atmospheric showers yields Information on 5 13 1019- C arl 1/2 S/058/62/oc-D/006/018/136 A study of the ... Time distribution of exten;ive cosmic ray air showers -PERIODICAL: Referativnyy zhurnal, Flzika, no. 10, 1962, 62, abstract 1OB464 (In collection: "Kosmicheskiye luchi, no. 3", Moscow, AN SSSR, 1961, 220 - 221, summary in English) TEXT: As is known, the frequency distribution of extensive cosmic ray air showers, investigated by cal ulating the number of shower events for equal time intervals, obeys the Foision law. However, more precise data on the distribution character may be obtained from the form of the time distribution function, i.e., the distribution of time intervals between ~he.shower events. Investigations into this kind of distribution, conducted for large time Intervals, showed the a~pli- cability of the Poisson law within the intervals concerned. The author studied .the time distribution of extensive air showers for small time Intervals (up to 1 see) on a large apparatus of the Yakutskaya laboratoriya fizich. problem (Yakutsk-Laboratory for Physical Problems) continuously recording up to 1500 qard 1/2 S/058/62/000/010/0116/093 Time distribution.of extensive cosmic ray air showers. A061/Aioi showers per hours Showers with'~ mean number N=1.11.10 of particles were recorded. The distribution of intervals, obtained experimentally, was compared with the ek- pected Poisson distribution. It is noted that the distribution of intervals in the first period (from 9.30 to 11.18) of the experiment which took place on March 5, 1960, is well described by the Poisson distribution, whereas great deviations from the Poisson law are observed in the second period (from 11.20 to 13.10). The necessity of repeating the experiments is pointed out. [Abstracter's note: Complete translation] Card 2/2 S/046/62/026/006/018/020 B125/B102 AUTHORS: Krasillnikov, D. D., )Lefil2y 14. The y FE M set is called a Chebyshev setv if to every x 6X there exists exactly one element y 6M so that 9(x,M) - y(x,y). Theoremt If the unit sphere of the n-dimensional Banach space Xn possesses no conic points, then each bounded Chebyshev set M C:X is convex. n Theorem: In the n-dimensional Banach space X n the class of the bounded Chebyebev sets is identical with the class of the bounded convex sets if and only if the unit sphere of X n is strongly convex and contains no c6nic points. For the case of the general Banach space X only some evident geometric considerations are given.
