Ukrayinalkyy fizychnyy zhurnal, v. 11, no. 8. 1966, 917-918 TOPIC TAGS: potassium chloride, crystal lattice dislocation, x-ray coloring, color center, crystal absorption spectrum ABSTRACT: This article endeavors to explain the role of dislocations in creating V-centers in KCI crystals subjected to x-rays at room temperatures. Four crystals of "pure" KC1 grown from a melt by the Kyropoulos method (two each with dislocation density of 5.106 and 5.104 cm-2) were colored by x-rays at room temperature and their absorption spectra were then photospectrometrically measured. Comparison of graphs platted from the results of "hard" and "soft" coloring showed that (1), other. coloring conditions behig equal, the crystals with more dislocations chiefly formed V3-centers (218 nV), while those with fewer disloca- tions gave only V2-centers (230 m1i), and (2) the spectral makeup of V-absorption does not -card--- L 45587-66 _k RT A Ct 9N iV7 i4 depend on "hardness" of crystal coloration, not only refuting the view that "hard" and "soft" x-rays create V3- and V2-centers, respectively, but also suggesting that V3-centers are de- fects formed either in or near the dislocations themselves, while V2-centers form in the lat- tice far from them and require lattice vacancies. Further studies showed that the preceding assumption is true and that the V2- to V3-center ratio is stipulated by dislocation density and the number of "frozeW' thermal vacancies in the crystal. In conclusion the authors thank Prof. M. P. Kalabukhov for interest in the work and useful discussions. Abstraot: [Authors' qungarian summary] S'pirometric, blood gas analytical, Er, and electrokymo-raphic studies were carried out on 37 patients suffering from cor pulmonale. The following conclusions were reached. 1) Spirometric studies do not furnish sufficient information for the classification of cor pulmonale into stages. 2) The 02 concentration of the blood and its pCO2 values are an accurate reflection of the clinical condition. 3) A close correlation can be demonstrated between the heart damage indicated by EKG and the clinical pic- ture.on one hand, and the values of blood gas analysis,on the other hand. 4) Help is furnished by the wave anomalies observed with electrokymography for the recognition of chronic cor pulmonale and for the evaluation of its severity. 4 Eastern European, 10 Western references.
