ABSTRACT: The author develop# the method of B. M. Zhemochkin for analyzing
beams resting an an elaiklic foundation (Ploskaya zadacha rascheta
beskonechno dlinnoy balki na uprugom oanovanli (The Plane Prob-
lem of Analyzing an Infinitely Long Beam Resting on an Elastic Fbunda-
tion). Raschet balok n& uprugom, polupros trans tve I poluplookosti
(Analysis of Beams Resting on a Semi-infinite Elastic Medium and on
a Semi-infinite Elastic Surface), 1937). When this method to used,
the distribution curve obtained for the foundation!s bearing reaction
does not exhibit that stepwise increase in the bearing reaction
exhibited when the curve therefor is obtained by other methods;
instead, under this method, the curve obtained indicates a break In
the bearing reaction at the center of the beam, the bearing reaction
