ABSTRACT: This Author Certificate presents a controlaed vacuum discharge. The
design reduces.the erosion of the electrodes with multiple passage through the
discharge of large pulse currents and reduces the inductance of the discharge. The.;
discharge is made in the form of several discharge-vacuum gaps,, connected in par-- .
allel and arranged in a singlehermetically sealed housing, The gaps.are triggered
by a 'single ignition device,, and the discharges are generated by a common low
potential electrode for the gaps and by several (based on the number of gaps),
high potential electrodes positioned opposite to the low potential electrode. The

ABSTRACT: This article concerns " FOCT 5993-91", for hexagonal
socket capscrews u;3zd in ~he machine too! and tool industry
of USSR. About 12 million of these screws were produced
in 1956 and a yearly production of 24 million is planned by
196o.
The Moscow Plant of Machine Tool Normal's (Moskovskiy
Zavod Stanochnykh Normale,r"has juoduced them since 1947 by cold
heading. The alathor thinks -that the experience shows that the
"GOSV -standa-i must be revised so as to enable production
of screws -from standard Yire and that an optium shape of the
hexagonal socket bottom should be found that would require
the least punching p.ressure. An illustrating calculation is
given using an equation by Genki and Mor (the names are trans-
literated). Foreign cal,::ulations by Hoffmann and Siebel and
by several Soviet technicians are mentioned.

ABSTRACT: A method is set forth for the determination of the modulus
of elasticity (E) of the hard VK15 alloy and the calculation of
stresses and strains in the dies (D ) with inserts of this allov
for the cold upsetting of screw heads. For the correct seler.-
tion of the tightness of fit between the body of the D and the
insert before pressing, it is proposed to use the Laxae' method
for the calculation of the stresses. In this case the D is

applied for the determination of the radial and tangential stresses in the walls
of the D and the insert upon their mutual pressing with the corresponding
strain. However for the solution of the given problem it is necessary to
know the magnitudes of E and the Poisson ratio for both the material of D
(30KhGSA-grade steel) and the hard VK15 alloy from which the insert is pre-
pared. Since it is impossible to determine the E of the hard alloy by the
ordinary method because specimens cannot be prepared from it, the deter-
mination of this characteristic of the alloy was carried out by means of com-
parison of the outer and inner diameters of the insert and the D before press-
fitting and in the press-fitted state, respectively. The mea'surement of the
outer diameter of the insert after it had been press-fitted on a 30-ton
hydraulic press was conducted with the aid of precisely measured rods of
U8A-grade steel which were inserted in diametrically opposed openings
drilled through the bushing of the die. The methods and examples of the
calculation of E based on the values of the deformation of the bushing and the
insert are adduced. To calculate the stresses the Poisson ratio was assumed
to be equal to 0.3 for the VK15 alloy. The comparison of the experimental
and the calculated data verified the correctness of the calculation of E of the
hard alloy and substantiated the selection of the value for the Poisson ratio.

Investigation of tularaemia foci was made in a tour of populated areas. Diagnosis
was confirmed by an intracutancous t6st with tularin and by positive agglutination
reaction with tularacmic antigen. The outbreak affected '48 populated areas, with
90.9'16 of cases showing the ulcero-glandular form, G.V~ the glandular, and 3% the
angino-glandular form. Observation showed that mosquitoes and horse-tlies, from
the bodies of which the agent was isolated. play an Important part in the spreading
of tularnemin. In 2 cases the agent was isolated In field-mice. The community was
vaccinated, and this caused a decrease in the number of cases. (S)

ABSTRACT: An automatic single-stage circuit for measuring a weak current of an
ionization chamber is described; the circuit is designed with an EM-3 electro-
meter tube. The weak current is measured by the discharge time of the input
capacitance of the circuit. To ensure stability, the circuit is balanced with
respect to both heating-current and tube-emission fluctuations. The best
balancing of the EM-3 tube was achieved by supplying the filament and the
anode separately. The lower limit of the measured current is determined by
the tube grid curr ent 6 x 10 - 15 amp. The upper limit is s et by the "dead time"
