TITLE: A New Method for Marking Parts (Novr-i sposob kley-
meniya detaley)

ABSTRACT: For marking parts, a liquid is used in the majority of
automobile plants, which contains a considerable quan-
tity of acid. This liquid is used by inspectors for
marking parts and it causes corrosion on the surfaces
of the latter. The Laboratoriya zashchitnykh pokry-
tiy Urallskogo avtozavoda (Laboratory for Protective
Coatings of the Ural Automobile Plant) developed,in
1956,a new acid-free, anticorrosion liquid for che-
mical marking. The liquid consists of 50 9/1 tannin,
30 9/1 copper sulfate and water at room temperature.
The copper sulfate intensifies the brightness of the
print and gives it durability. For faster drying,

cloth Dad is soaked with the liouid and a ccnventuional
rubber stamD is used. Good prints are obtained on
machined parts made of carbon or alloyed steel and
cast iron. No corrosion was observed on metal Darts
which were marked with the aforementioned liquia, not
even after extensive storage.

ABSTRA.CT: In the operation of steam plant, correct extraction of
condensate reduces heat loss due to stray steam and reduces
condensate make-up. All condensate extractors include a throt-
tling device whose aperture diameter governs the discharge
capacity of the condensate extractor. It is necessary to deter-
mine the correct diameter for super-heated condensate but the
difficulty is that the flow of a super-heated liquid through an
aperture does not follow the same laws as the flow of cold
water or steam. As published work on the calculation of these
throttling devicer suffers from a number of defects, the i-,-3scow
Power Institute (MEI) developed a simple and reliable method.
The object of the investigation was to determine the laws of flow
of superheated water with various initial and final conditions
at various nozzle dimensions. The most important step was to

flow of condensate and the physical conditions and -eom-e.rical
factors; it can be used to deter-mine tuhne flow of condensate
for values of back-pressure above and below the critical value.
This is of considerable advantage ov~_r previous zeth-ods. By
means of the nomogram, any four kmriorn quam-titlies maj be used
to determine a fifth. Two examples o'L the use of the nomogram
are explained: in one, the pressures, tte diameter and the

initial temperature are known and -'It is recuired to deter-inine
the flow; in the other, the press-arres, the flo- and the initia
temperature are known and it is required to determine the
diameter. It must be remembered that the nomo-ram, is con-
structed for cylindrical throttling devices, with shrarp inlet
edges, having a discharge coefficient of 0.0`11 - 0.?.

ABSTRACT: A charae consisting of sulfide Pb concentrates treated at the
Chimkent Lead Plant was investigated. The composition of the
char-e, calculated as slag (lo composition: FeO 37, SiOZ 19,
and CaO 9), is presented in a table, The process proceeded
without any significant deviations from the agglomeration of the
usual rnix (containing added fluxes) and the output of the sinter-
ing machine was 8.8-11.0, with an average of 9.85 t/mZ day,
the degree of desulfurization being 657o. Thus it is shown that
it is entirely possible to conduct an agglomerating roast of sul-
fide Pb concentrates without adding fluxes to the charge, pro-
vided that concentrates are so combined as to produce a sla- of

was placed in a Wilson chamber and the primary energy from the tarm,

ABSTRACTt Measuring was oarried out by means of a neutron-spectrometer with
a resolving power of -0,1 - 0,2 microsec/m and 3 - 5 -500 eV.
The parameters of the resonances were computed up to energies of
from 30 - 50 (with which the levels can still be regarded as re-
solvable). For these resonances the neutron widths r n, were de-
termined. The total widths r are sufficiently determined for those
strong levels for which errors committed in determining width
was not more than -50%- '1he authors try the statistical treatment
of the data obtained in order to compare them with the theory.
Next the method of dealing with results is discussed. The total
cross-sections were determined by measuring the transparence of
samples of different thicknesses. The fission cross-section of
Card 1/3 U235 was measured by means of a fission chamber which contains

The total cross-section of U Three samples of U
investigated, i.e. the samples Nr 2 and 3 at neutron-energies of
from 6 to 22 eV, the samples Nr 1, 2, and 3 at energies of from
18 to 450 eV. At energies of more than 20 eV noticeable errors
occur on the occasion of the determination of the number of levels.
The here computed resonance parameters are shown in a table.
The total cross-section of U 235: Three samples of U 235_oxide were
examined, i.e. 2 samples at neutron energies of from 3,3 to 7 eV,
and all samples within the energy range of from 3,3 to 7 eV. At
energies of more than 20 eV a considerable number of levels is lost.
The authors found for both spin states of the composed nucleus
11 - 4 and 1 2 - 3 the average density W = 1,65 � 0,05 eV-1. The
parameters of the resonances of U 235 are shown in a table. Re-
ports on the ligsion cross-section of U 235 and on the total cross-
Card 2/3 section of Pu are analogous.

Some Conclusions% The values of the reduced neutron width show
considerable variations for one and the same nucleus. The dis-
tribution of the neutron widtps cannot be described
by a simple exponential law. The distribution of levels 'in all
cases can be explained by accidental causes. An exception is
perhaps formed by pu239 where, with n - 4, the grouping probabili-
ty of the levels is 90 (15 illustrations).

ABSTRACT: Two counters are described which are very stable and are
used in multichannel time- f-fli-ght analygors.N Fig 1
shows a binary unit based on the 6Zh9P valve including
driver and output stages. The driving pulse amplitude
must lie between 8 and 10 volts and last 0.1 Asec. The
rise time is about 0.02 jisec and the delay is exponential.
The upper frequency limit is 7 Mels. The correcting
inductances shown are wound over standard high-value
resistances. Fig 2 is a simpler circuit using 6N6P
valves. Anode triggering is used at -40 volts.
Operation is stable against a 20-25% variation in all
parameters. The resolving time is about 0.3 ~tsec,. The
upper frequency limit is at least 1 Mc/s. The output
