of the steels was determined. It was found that the addition of 0.3--o.4,119' Ca to
TsZh9 steel completely prevents the formation of cracks during welding. The addition;
of Li and Ce had little effect on the quality of the weld. The addition of 0.3% Ga
to E1725 steel improves the quality of the weld but has no effect on the strength
limit or viscosity of the steel. The addition of 0.1--o.15% Ce to lKhl8N9T steel
increases the tensile properties and the impact strength of the steel by a factor
of 1.2--l.3. It is concluded that the addition of Ca and Ce to austenitic steels
improves the technological and mechanical properties of the latter,

ABSTRACT: B1847 (Kh161115H3B) austenitic Cr-Ni-Mo steel, while highly heat-resistant,
displays compari-tively low iq~_stic_p ~perties'Yfin this connection, the authors
tested different techniques of producing melts of this steel, with the object of
uncovering a technique assuring an improved plasticity of the steel so as to make
it more suitable for use in the fabrication of high-temperature tubes. Metallo-
graphic examination, chemical analysis, and investigations of plasticity in the
presence of elevated temperatures as well as the hot rolling of experimental and
industrial sets of tubes from six different melts containing identical amounts of
Cr, Ni, Mn and Si plus 0.05-0.5% C, 0.007-0.015% S, 0.012-0.17% P, 0.49-1.0% N~>'

displays the optimal plasticity at elevated temperatures(pp to 1250-1275'C) I t

Abstract : The chair of public health urganization of the Gar'kiy Medical Institute
imeni S. 14. Kirov and the medical personnel of the Gorlkiy GES made a de-
tailed study, durin,,, 1950-19,52, of workinj and living conditions of workers
employed, on GES construction project. A thorough analysis of causes of
illness indicated and measures to reduce morbidity rate were taken.
People employed in hardlin,~~ food, employees in institutions for children,
and all those with paw-lt history of' gas tro -intestinal disorders have been
-;ubjected to periodic bacteriological examinations. Decrease in morbidity
amon~~ workers and service personnel and advance in labor productivity are
dependent on greater use of preventive measures and extension of dispensary
system of' inedical aia. IncreasinL.1y high value of research to planning pro-

TEXT: It was the purpose of the present paper to compare the thermal
stability and the initiating activity of the diacylperoxides of the benzoyl
of the cinnamic and hydrocinnamic acids with one anothera The authors In-
tended in particular to explain the effect of the groups -CH=CH- and
-CH 2- CH 2-1 which were introduced between the group -0-0- and the phenyl

ABSTRACT: The Donbass coal mines every year use more than 5,000,000
cubic m of mine props. Their transportation costs many
man-hours in loading op.--rations. The authors proposed
using special metal crated into which these props can be
packed, thus reducing the timc required for loading and
unloading operations. These cratEs have been accepted by
the Gosplan of the RSFSR, which did not, however, grant
necessary funds to pay for the manufacture. The props are
still being delivered in bulk. There are 2 drawings, 2
tables and 2 photos.

TITLE~ Investigation of the heat exchange during mercury flow in a
round pipe at small Fecle numbers
PERIODICAL: Izvestiya vysshikh uchqbnykh zavedeniy. Energetika, no. 7,
1961, 79-85
TEXT3 Experimental results are giv9n of the heat-exchange investigation
during mercury flow in a round pipe at small Peels numbers (N P). This
investigation was carried out because little is known of the heat exchange
during the flow of liquid metals in tubes, especially at small N P values.
The heat transfer was studied during the flow of mercury in laminar and
transition regions under hydrodynamically and thermically stable conditions,
and at a constant heat-flux density acting upon the pipe wallss The experi- VX
mental setup (Fig. 1) consisted of (1) a round calibrated pipe made of soft
iarbon steel, 7.24 mm in internal diameter, 12-03 mm in external diameter,
1,504 mm long; and connected by rubber hoses with two mercury tanks;

(2) an electric heater coaxially mounted with the 504 mm long working portion
of the pipe (1)) (3) a coaxial vacuum chamber; (4) four coaxial heat shields
made from aluminum foil; (5) a thermostat; (6) a mercury mixerl auxiliary
heaters (7 and 8)j (9) a mercury cooler; (10) on electric motor for moving
up and down the mercury tanks; and (11) a stroboscopic tachometer* The heat
t-.c-an3fer was measured by 7 thermocouples afixed to the pipe (1). The heat-
transfer coefficient was determined by the formulat

where qI is the density of heat flux relative to the unit length of the
pipe uzider test, d is the internal diameter of the pipel and A t is the
.;alculated thermal head at the given cross-section. The heat-transfer mea-
aurements were conducted in the range from N P 14 to 600t which corresponds to
the range of Reynolds numbers from N Re 620 to 23,500 or to the Prandtl numb6rei

the laminar region corresponds to the theoretical relationship
NNU - 4.36 ; (1)
where NNu is the Nusselt number. The formula (1) is true for N Re < 2,300,
which corresponds to N "55, The heat transfer in the transition region

(Fig. 2) is described by the interpolated dependence
NNU - 4.36 + 0-0053NP . (2)
Deviations of the exparimental Nffu values from the formula (2) do not ex-
-eed 5%. This formula (2) is true for N Re values from 2,300 to 23,500, whioh
correspond to the NP values from 55 to 600. The experimental data obtained
for Np> >16,000 coincide with the formula
,,, 400, or NRe NNu 5 + 0-014NP0.8 , the error being + 5% (3).
