shielded and were designed to reg ster only particles with energies 1~,600 ?1ev/nucl.

in terms of.the Z ange f*
Inal counter, the anode output cha acteristic corresponded to the r rom Z

Icalibration technique was to exci a a SIC electroluminescent diode with a high-vo
tage, short-duration (4-30 nsec) thyratron pulse, providing the phototube with a
light input similar to a counter nput. Early results from these primary particle
,counters, obtained during the IQS-, have been a useful supplement to analogous satel-

!transition from maximum to minimum. Comparative results are seen in Fig. 2, which I

Abstract: grass by 8 tines. The higher the moisture Of the
PC, the fasted and greater was the grass seed
gemination reduced. An analogical effect was
shown by mixilg the seeds with powdery PC. In
both, cases th~ germination and sprouting force of
pinl( clover Seeds was not lowered, which may be
exp ained by ~he presence in leguminous grass
see s of a layer of tightly compressed palisade
Cel 8 which dy not permit the acid of PC to pass
ti'-
to e embryo. Storing grass seeds in an organic
mineral mixture did not show any adverse effects.
n
Whe seeds are sown with granulated PCs It is sug-
gested that dry compost or peat be added; without
peatl the granule and seed mixture should be made
imme,'diately b1fore planting. -- M.A. NovoderzhA'ina

Width ofJO Telluriq-Lines

PERIODICAL: SolnechnVye dannyye, 1959, No. 7, pp. 93-94
TEXT- This is brief not on determination of equivalent width of 0 2
t
telluric lines. Sine je the optic 1 thickness in the center of a line is proportiai-
c
al to the molecule number, it c be assumed that an increase of equivalent width
with an increase in the number o' molecules, should take place at the expense of
an increase of the central residial intensity. A proof of this assertion is
presented. Absorption in the center of the line is directly proportional to
I
equivalent width, bu~ for the abiorption in the line wings this relation is
expressed considerabfy vreaker. "here are 7 references.
