TITLE: On tying positions of Earth artificial satellites to stars
PERIODICAL: Referativnyy zhurnal, Astronomiya i Geodeziya, no. 4, 1962, 17,
abstract 4A155 ("Byul. st. optich. nablyudeniy iskusstv. sputnikov
Zemli", 1960, no. 10,'8 - 10, English summary)
TZ(T: The author described a method of tying positions of an Earth arti-
ficial satellite to stars. The method is based on drawing diurnal parallels
of stars from observations of their transits across the lines of the graticule in
the sight field of an AT-1 telescope and using a measuring grid representing this
graticule on the scale of the stellar chart. The advantages of this method are:
the orientation of the graticule in the telescope sight field relative to the
vertical is of no importance, the knowleqge,of coordinates of the sight field
center is not needed; it is sufficient to-have one or two starts within the STAek
telescope sight field, and the coordinates of the observational object are derived

ABSTRACT: This is a review of the book Nasha Planets. iz Kosmgaa (our-Planet

so-called alb= was compiled by Professor K. Ya. Kondr!jtI, qV,
KropLh-kin and V.G lorache akly under the general aditorship of Acade-
mician Ye. K. Feodorov. The 50-page album, of relatively small format#
'has text in both Russian and English. Paper is good and type is large
.!.and clear. There is a foreword by Academician Fedorovj followed by
lexcerpts from statements made by ~Soviet cosmonauts on how the earth
looks from ipace. The reviewed notes that a much better job could have
lbeen done using the more ample informatiori on this point given in news-
paper* Me introductory chapter describe3 the-probleas which could be
Golved in meteorology by use of satellites and spaceships. This is
1followed by 20 color photographs taken from spaceshipst Emphasis is on-

Abstract : Persons who had recovered from infectious hepatitis and persons who had
been In contact with infectious, hepatitis patientj were observed to
determine how long convalescents remained virus carriers
whether later
,
relapses of the illness could be considered merely as aggravations of a
chronic infection, or whether they were a reinfection, and if' it was
possible for contacts to acL as virus carriers withuut exhibiting any of'
the clinical manif ta stations of the disease. The virus was detected by
an agglutination reaction in which the virus vas adsorbed on bacteria.
It was shown that the virus could be detected for several years after the
first appearance of jaundice. In one instance the virus was detected in
the blood of a healthy contact who, 2 1/2 months later contracted the
disease. No references are cited.

of epidemiology and microbiology and some of the medical insti-
tutes. In addition, dele- ?ates attended from the Institutes of
Virology and Infectious Diseases of the AMN, USSR, the Lenin-
gradskiy institut eksperimentallnoy meditsiny (Institute of Ex-

Papers were presented on: the cultivation of the causative agent
of endemic hepatitis in developing chick embryoes (N.I. Krivaya-

Leningrad) and in explantated human embryonic tissue (M.N. Sosh-
nikova and I.A. Karaseva, Tashkent. Ya. K. Gimmellfarb spoke on
the complement fixation reaction with non-bacterial adsorbent for
the specific diagnosis of Botkin's disease. Verifying observa-
tions on this reaction were made by N.B. Proskuryakova and Ye.G,
Fedulova of the Institut infektsionnykh bolezney ( Institute of
Infectious Diseases) of the AMN, USSR, by I.F. Shevchenko (Kiyev),
N.M. Karapats (Leningrad), M.D. Aleynik (Corlkiy), and K,N. Ste-

ABSTRACT: The ternary reciprocal system of acetates and nitrates of rubidium
and cesium was studied. Tile investigation Is a continuation of previously reported
work G. Go Diogenov, To I. Bruk, and No No Nurminskiy (Zh. neorgan. khimlip 100

a pronounced shift in the equilibrift towarg any, one of the components.
