Subject: OSS Records - Dulles Files
1. You will recall that in his review of the Dulles papers
STATINTL I Icame upon two envelopes containing several hundred
papers. These were the reports and other material
had sent to Mr. Dulles when he was head of the OSS
reports, made the technically correct decision to
retain them with official files.
2. Mrs. Dulles has several times raised a question about
STATINTL these papers, saying they were of personal interest to her and to
I land that fir. Dulles had wanted her (Mrs. Dulles)
to have them. Since we have a basic understanding that we will
return to the family's custody all material that we can release, I
personally reviewed all these documents and believe it
is obvious that none of them is or could properly be classified at
this time.
3. I discussed the matter with the Director and recom-
mended that we release these documents to Mrs. Dulles. The
Director approved this recommendation. I will deliver the

cocuments to Mrs. Dulles. As of now, she has made no decision
on what disposition will be made of these documents or any other
