TEXT: A method for laboratory oxidation of transformer oils in such a
Way that the operational behavior of the oils can be evaluated is described.
The oil is stirred during oxidation by means of a hollow Krama'sic mixer;
the degree of oxidation of the oil is evaluated from the variation in
viscosity, the saponification number and the breakdown voltage, and also
from the variation in color of the oil, as determined 7rith a spectrophoto-
meter. Use of the Kramas"ic mixer gives quicker oxidation of the oil than
the V.D.E. method. LAbstracter's note: Complete translation.

ture given for the following dyes: (1) sulfate black; benzene
tschlorinated to produce monochlorobetizene which I,; then
, trated to produce 1-~hloro-2,4-diaitrobenzene. This is
converted to 2,4-dinitrophenol by Uating with N%OH.
The 2,4-dinitrophenot Is heated with a soln. of polysul-
fide and the product, upon oxidation In air, gives the
sulfate black dye. This method has been used on a serni-
hidustrial scale to produce 1046n arnts. of the dye. (2)
Sulfate blue- chlorobenzenc is nitrated to give a rnixt. of
a- and p-nilrochlorobenzenc. The latter is treated with
NuOH soln. in. an autoclave at 04 atin. pressure to give
nitrophcnol. This Is reduced In the presence. of Fe in a
salt (NaCI) soln. to give p-arninophenoll which is condensed
with 1-chlom-2,4-dinitrobenzene to give 2.4-dinitro-4-
hydroxydiphenylarnine. Heating this product with a soln.
of NaS, in various concris. and under different conditions
followed by oxidation gives 2 blue dyes of different iden-
tity. (3) Sulfate brown; naphthalene is nitrated to give
mononitronaphthalene which is further nitrated to produce a
mixt. of 1,5- and 1,8-dinitroiiaphthalene which is then,
heated in a rotating Fe drurn with NarS and S to produce the
clye. (4) Hydron Olive dye; anthracene is heated in a
rotating drum with S The product is extd. with Na2S.
!o produce the dye. 6) Chrome blue anti chrome black
for wool; ~ soln. of 2-naphthol is treated with a soln. of

NaNO, in H,50# t6- Produce I-nitmso-2-naphthul, which
upon the add". of NallSO, and U.S04 gives I-amino-2-
nphtliol-I-sulfonic acid. This is then subjected to the
diazo reaction to form I-diazo-2-naphthol-i-sulfonic acid.
The Na salt of this acid is treated with a soln. of the Nit
salt of 2-naphthol. This produces a (lark blue dye. im
Migrosine; this dye is pmpd. by heating PhMH HCI with
PlINO, and treating the reaction product with Nil be
