The Communist Party of Thailard ras received instructions from China that
orr1inarf Party members mustbe forbidden to see Americas films and that
it is forbidden to buy American goods.*
2. The Party was also directed +o levy penaltir:s for non-observance of this
order. Such Taenaltles are to vary, in the .ase of the first offense, from
a mere reprimand to dismissal from one's jcJ, fn the case of labor union
members. The third offense requires the fo:_-feiture of Party benefits.**

the lower echelons. of the Patty's membership. An example of its
having been nit into operation occurred at a village near Bangkok
in early January, when occupants of a vehicle deliver5ng mineral
waters were asked by shopkeepers whether their goods wore of
American origin, 'because in that case, t"e mods would not be
acceptab3 e. When the shopkeepers b~r1 been a ssured that the goods
were of British origin, they bought as usual.
