was determined in one specimen by measuring the number
of spontaneous fissions in a multi-layer ionization cham-
ber; in other-specimens the relative amount of pu24o
was determined by comparing the areas of the dips in the
resonance of PuP-40 at 1.06 ev on the transmission curves,
obtained by mean of a mechanical neutron selector.
Me procedure for determining ~)eff is based on the
measurement of the effect of the capture and production
of neutrons from the clisturbance to the neutron field in
a graphite prism with a central cavity, in which the in-
vestigated specimen is placed (see Referat Zhur Fizika,
1957, 557). The ratios )`~Ileff/ 0 1eff of specimens
with and without Pu240 admixtures were measured. The
results of the measurements are given in the following
table:
