perfringens type A. This disease occurred on an apidemic scale with a high more-'
tality rate. Treatments with intramiscular injection of 3000 uufts antiper-
fringens serum type A per 500 g. weight provided effective remedy. With
adequate diet following this treatmento the guitkea-pige regained porfect.

Abstract In the mountainous oblasts the ripening times offruit
crops may be extended by placing them at different alti-
tudes. The gradients of the lag in fruit ripening is
somewhat less in the Caucasus and Tyan'-Shan' mountains
than listed in the literature on the mountains of Western
Europe. Thus, if the average delay in Western Europe is
8 days for every 100 meters altitude, it is 3-4 days in
the Dzherakskoye ravine (the city of Ordzhonikidze)

and in the Zailiysiy Ala-Tnu mountains. AccordinG to the
data collected over many years there are different gra-
dients in Zailiyakiy Ala-Tau at various altitude of 700-
14W me above sea level the apple ripening is retarded
by 3-3-3.5 days for every 100 m. altitude, and by 5-6
days at an altitude of 1400-1680 m. The dalay in wild
strawberries at an altitude of 1700- /_77 1400 m. is 2-3
days, 1400-1529 m. -3.6, and 1529-2257-m. -5.6 days.
