6-rnet -2-Z2_-(or 3- and 4-)pyridyl_7-cinch~oninic and 2-/-2-( or
3-and 4-)-pyridylLT-cinchoninic were tested for antipyr-itic
activity and toxicity. Antipyretic activity was determined in
grey rabbits, toxicity in mice. 2-(2-pyridyl)-cinchoninic acid
has a very strong antipyretic activity, 2-0--pyridyl)-cinchonin-
ic acid a very pronounced one, 6-methyl-2-(3-pyridyl) einchoninio
acid has a weak activity. Toxicity of these substances is lower
than that of cinchophen, but higher than antipyrine, The most
active substance is the most toxic one its LD 50 is 470 mg/kg.

ABSTRACT: Thermal analysis was used to study the InteracUon in the LaCl3 -smC% and
LaCl -YCl3 systems. In the LaCl~-S~nC13 system, the components form a continuous series
of solid solutions (Rozeboom 4W 11). Ile maximum on the liquidus curve corresponds to a
content of 88 mole % LaC13 and a temperattwe of 860C. The LaC'3-YC'~, system is of eutectic
type. Tile eutectic point corresponds to 25 mole % IaCla and 650C. It is shown that thesalidusl
line of the IaCla-SmCla system can be obtained by calculation. 1"he points of the calculated and-
experimental. maxima are in satisfactory mutual agTeement. The eutectic system LaCla-YCI3 was

Abstract In chronic experiments on cats, there was a rapid decrease
in the erythrocyte count and hemoglobin level in the first
few days after denervation of the spleen) as well as a con-
siderable rise in the number of polychromatophil-ic normo-
blasts and retioulocytes. The number of mitotic figures
was increased, Total erythropoietic activity increased,,
but there was a simultaneous disturbance in the maturation
of erythronoinoblasts. Five months later erythropoietic
activity diminished, and a decrease was seen in the number
of cells of the erythroid series. The chief cause of the
anemia vas apparently an increase in the hemolytic: function

The initestigation of the"representation of afferent systems on
various levels of the central nervous system is an essential
task to be carried out in the field of physiology. The author
su,.,oeeded in olarifying the somatotopic distribution of the
.representation of afferent systems within the posterior
ventral Thalamus nucleus (Nue-leus ventralis posterior) of the
cat-By recording the primary answers (metod pervichnykh
47.,tvetov) the topography of the representation of somatic
sensibility (the first and second somatic regions, Fig it
Refs 29 4, 69 7) was determined. Also additional
representation,s were found (Refs 19 39 8). Among the largest
and most important nerves only the representation mentioned

The author thoroughly investigated grown-up tom cats under
application of Nembutal-chloralose narcosis. The nervus
ischiadicus and n. pelvicus were stimulated by means of silver
electrodes by one single shock. 2 submergible electrodes
/pogruzhnyye elektrody P1.) consisting of insulated tantalum
wire were submerged thPough the mass of one hemisphere into
the left and right ventral Thalamus nucleus (according to
Ref 5). From the results obtainel the author comes to the
conclusion that the pelvic nerve (n. pelvicus) of, the posterior
ventra'jl. nucleus (N.VP) is represented by a special region. This
reglon covers the axea of representation of the n, ischiadicus
just as is the case on the surface of the-cerebral cortex.
