ABSTRACT: The effect of d1hyd;roergotamine on stimulated and cooled animals was In-
vestigated as part of a continuing study by the authors of carbohydrate metaboli"M
during lnterocep~ive atimulatibnlin hypOhermla. Whydroergotamine, an adrenolytic
substance, was chosen for comparison with the-results of previous expiriments using
ephedrine, which has an opposite effect. Thirty-five anesthetized cats and-12 anes-
,thetized rabbits were injected wit Ih.dihydroargatamine (6 mg/kg of body weight). A
special cooling chamber [not dencrlbed) was used to induce hypothermia. Receptors
of the rectum were stimulated by a pressure of 100 = Hg for 1 min. In the first
part of the experiment, the effect of dihydroergotamine onblood-sugar levels in nor-
m.al and adrenolectomized animals was determined. It was found that dihydroergotamine
caused a prolonged depression of the blood-sugar level in all experimental animals.

second part of the experiment, the effect of dihydroergotamine on interoceptive un-

ABSTRACT: The effects of a radial temperature drop on the stress distribution in a
hollow sphere, consisting of two concentric, rigidly joined layers (a thick outer
layer, and a thin inner cladding) of different perfectly elastic-plastic materials
are examined. It is assumed that the temperature field in the sphere is syranetric,
the temperature and stresses are uniformly distributed over the thickness (if a layer, 1

-and that the thermal-expansion coefficient of the cladding is higher than th
the outer layer. The solution is performed in two versions: when the plastic flow
of material starts either in the inner or in the outer layer. The strain hardening
(,alled here "adaptability") of the materials of a layer in case of repeated loading

the condition of identity and continuity of the radial displacements over tile inter-
face in both problems. The pressures p, and pi at which yielding of the (outer and
inner, respectively) layer material begins are determined and discussed, and expres-
sions describing the elastic-plastic states and radial displacements are derived for
cases when p. < pi and po > pi. The rates of plastic deformation and bounds of
plastic zones are determined. This phenomenon of "adaptability" is analyzed by
introducing parameters which describe the system of residual stresses and the
tem2crature field in the sphere during a cycle. An expression for determining the
1"adaptability temperature" is derived, and the formation of plastic zones when the
;maximum temperature of the cycle is higher than the "adaptability temperature" is

ABSTRtCT: The picture of this section has been built up by data
from holes drilled both on the islands and in the sea
(from barges). The Quaternary deposits ~Baku, Gyurgyarskiy,
and Khozarskiy yarusy (seriesf fill synclinal downwarps
and cover terraces on the islands; they consist of
clays, with admixtures of silty brid sandy particles.
The greatest thickness, b5O m to 600 m, occurs in the
synclinal downwarps. The Apsheron deposits tire exposed
Card 1/2 on the limbs of anticlinal uplifts. They are ciiiefly
