In recent times a considerable volume of evidence has accumulated, pointing to a
central nervous mechanism of action of Insulin. At the same time. however. the
data on the conditioned reflex action of Insulin are not always conclusive. Although
attemlAs to reproduce conditioned renes hypoglycaernia have proved unsuccessful.
conditioned renex reactions characteristic of the hypoglycaemic symptom complex
are regularly observed. U Indifferent stimuli were combined with Insulin hypo-
glycaemin they rapidly became converted to conditional ones. Thus. hypoglycaemia
acts centrally an the body. Data on a primary action of insulin on vascular intero-
ceptors are not confirmed. The work of the author and collaborators indicates
that neither procaine nor narcotics liven in domes sufficient to inhibit the vascular
receptors in the CNS can modify the sugar-lowering action of lawAIM6 (S)

women (both groups totalling 32 wonwn aged 31-60) being treated with
