Sofia, Veterinara Sbirka, vol 63, NO 516, 1966, pp 11-14
Abstract: In experiments In which the action of a number of dis-
infectants on Bac. anthracts, Brucella suls, Nycob, tuberculosis,
and BCG was studied. a-correlation between antibacterial action
of the disinfectants and their suppression of dehydrogenase
activity of the microorganisms was established. The parallelism
bet-ieen the inhibition of dehydrogenase activity and bacteriet-
dal action was not comDlete - it varied with the nature of the
disinfectant. With dec'reasing temperatures in the 0-37-50
range, the dehydrogenase activity decreased. The concentration
of disinfectant required to suppress the dehydrogenase activity
Increased with decreasing temperatures in this range. In
experiments with 'Bac. anthracist there was complete correspon-
dence between the bactericidal effect and inhibition of amylase
activity for phenol only; all other disinfectants exerted only

TITLE: A New Empirical Equation for the Radii of Ions With the Electronic

PERIODICALt Zhurnal obshchey khimii, 1959, Vol 29, Nr 2, pp 689-691 (USSR)
ABSTRACT% The size of the effective ion radii depends on the type of bond
in the crystal, on the coordination number of the crystalline
structure and on the chemical nature of the ions, surrounding the
ion to be investigated, With one and the same type of bond and the
same coordination number, the dimensions of the ion radii are rather
constant and do not depend on the other components of the bond, As
an approximation the distunce between the ions in crystals is eaual

methods (Refe 1-4) also full empirical equations were set up, con--
necting the ion radii to any physico-chemical constant, most frequent-
ly to the order number of the element (Refe 5-8). The ion radius

A New Empirical Equation for the Radii of the Ions With the Electronic Structure
of an Inert Gas
The suggested formula r - 39m refers to cations only with 8 eleo-

trons in the external layer, In the present paper the author wants
to stress the fact that Kapustinskiy's equation in only a partial
case of the more marked general empirical equation r - a + kIgZ,
where k denotes the constant, a thefun-.tion of the ion vulency,
Z the order number of the element. The coefficient kti (more precise-
lY 0,95) may be assumed for the cations, Qaantity a i. the funution
of the cation valency, The same equation may be considered as being
r-k(al + IgZ), where a'. 1. This new constant simply depends on the
k
valency of the cation, i.e. a6- -n , where n denotes the ion valenq.
4
Regarding the anions, k is no constant value but the function of the
anion valency. The values of the radii of the individual ions cal-
culated by means of the above equation are shown in the table and
are compared t,-. the empirical radii a,~cording to Goldschmidtv.
(Ref 1), Pauling, P. (Ref 3) and Kapustinakiy (Ref 9). Apart from
the elements of the fourth period (with 18 electrons) the results

ABSTRACT% A survey of the available publications is given here first.
The papers by K. W. Wagner (Ref 1), L. Blume and A. Boyajian
(Ref 2), L. V. Byuley (Ref 3), V. A. Kurasev (Ref 4)9 B.Heller,
I. Hlavka, and A.'Veverka (Ref 5), 1. Firenae (Ref 6), B.Heller
and A. Veverka (Ref 7), and V. A. Karasev and A, V. 3k1yunin
(Ref 8) are mentioned. The magnetic field of the coil and the
free oscillations in coils with earthed neutral conductor are
inveatigated here. The fortaula for the computation of the
frequency of free oscillations in a coil with a steel core
is derived. The computation of the frequency of natural
oscillations in a coil with earthed neutral conductor and in
a coil with insulated neutral conductor is then shown. The
mutual induction between the coil windings is computed analyti-

'TITLE: Application of two-center functions in calculations of -iatomic
Imolecules -
,SOURCE- AN Lit SSR. Litovskiy fizicheskiy sbornik. v.1, no.1-2, 1961, 101-117
;'TOPIC TAGS: wave function, single-electron wave function, two-center wave
;~function, Schroedinger equation, biatomic, molecule, ion, H, hydrogen
:ABSTRACT: This theoretical paper deals with the two-center single-electron
wave functions which have been obtained by others as the result of a solution of
the Schroedinger equation for the positive ion of the Hydrogen molecule. The
'primary task of this paper is an application of the Bates functions (Bates, D. R.,
,et al., Roy, Soc., Proce, vo A?34, 1956, Z07) to the calculation of biatomic mole-
cules for the case when the wave function of the system is constructed in the form
of determinants, consisting of said functions, on the premise that a single type of
equivalent electrons exists. The effective charge is determined from the condition
,of minimum energy of the system. The general equation is obtained for the energy'-
of a molecule in the form of a sum of integrals of the elliptical coordinates,X

which can be calculated by numerical integration; in a particular case, they are
reduced to tabulated integrals. All ultimate equations appear in two forms: The
first affords a possibility of employing Bates' tables. recomputed for suitable
values of the effective charge, wherein the matrix element of the interaction
operator of the electrons is determined by numerical integration. The second
affords a possibility of reducing all integrals of the theory to the tabulated once;
the full employment of the Bates tables, of course, Is thereby excluded. With
.further reference to the two possible methods for the calculation of blatomic
molecules with identical nuclei by means of the two-center functions, it is noted
that the first of them, that is, the method employing the tables of the parameters,
the energy, and the coefficients of the Bates wave functions, conceives of the
,energy of a system rationally in the form of the sum of the energy of the electrons
.relative to tfie nucleus and the energy of interaction between the electrons. The
1irst term of this sum can be calculated with the aid of Bates' tables as recomputed
for suitable values of the effective charge (see above). The second term of the sum
is found by numerical integration. Consequently, for the calculations undertaken,
it is advisable to tabulate the integrals in terms of which the matrix elements of
the interaction operator between equivalent and nonequivalent electrons can be
expressed. The second method, in which the effective charge is varied for speci-
fied R and 2 a in inte ge rs, leads to the integrals tabulated by M. Kotani et al.,

employment of the Bates tables for the parameters and for the energy. The maxi-
mum accuracy of this method does not exceed the accuracy of the graphs employ d.,
