An AC 1-kw superhigh pressure lamp without water cooling has been used in a narrow- film (16 mm) stationary no-shutter motion-picture projector. Equipped with a reflector of 315 mm. diameter, the projector yields a luminous flux of more than 1, 500 lm. An auxiliary high-frequency pulse device (with an autotransfor - mer cozmection) has been developed to ignite the xenon lamp in this projector; t:he lanV is stapplied by a circuit containing a choke coil with a steel core with- out an air gap. In a diffused-light luminaire (i. e. , RS-60 type) used in movie filming, the tabular high-pressure lamp is used; 3 such lamps operate simul- taneously to avoid the stroboscopic effect. The axial luminous intensity power of such a lturdnaire is IZ, 000 candles - Orly the DC superhigh pressure lamps can be used im filming floodlights. In a 150-mm lens projector, with 1 -kw lamp power, the axial luminous intensity reaches 160, 000 candles with a nar - row bearn. A luminous flux of 1,000 Im has been obtained in a KPT-l 35-mm. Priborostroyeniye, v. 8, no. 5, 1965, 27-32 TOPIC TAGS: titanium, magnesium, metallurgic research, automatic control ABSTRACT. 1A new is sugge ed for detecting and controlling the pulp density at Ti"and-M& concentrating rnills; the device is based on the absorption I and scattering of microrwave radiation by the pulp. As the resonance dipole loss of water molecules occurs at frequencies about 109 cps (K. L. Gunn et al. Quart. 1. Card 11Z UDC: 621.317.39,531.75 L 08937-67 ACC INR: AP6009173 Roy. Meteorol. Sac. v. 42, 525. 1954), the working frequency of the device has been selected away from this frequency, for titanium tetrachloride pulp, a frequency of 3750 Mc has been selected. In a model outfit, the carrier frequency modulated by 10 kc was directed by a horn antenna onto a stream of pulp moving I in a conduit. A receiving antenna placed on the other side of the conduit fed the signal to a receiver. A plot of attenuation caused by the pulp Ys. pulp density In shown. The microwave irkethod is held to be better than other known methods (picnometric, areometric, hydrostatic, radio-active) of pulp-qualifty control. I Orig. art. has: 2 figures and 7 formulas. Ya., TtTLEt New a:ngle-measuring table with inductive pickup P:BRIODICILt Izmeritellnays, tekhnika, no. 4, 1961, 9-13 TSXTs It Is * principal drawback of angle-measuring instruments with graduated scale that they cannot be used for the automatic measurement of angles Pnd angular displacements. Studies are therefore conducted by various inatitutem in order to elaborate electric angle-measuring methods by means of &atomatio and nonautomatic angle-measuring instruments. An angle-measuring table was developed by the Osoboye konBtruktorskoye byuro (OKB) (Special Design Office) for the experimental investigation of the inductive method of angle measuring. Fig. 1 shows the principle of the measuring device. Two ring gears 4 and 5 are mounted on shaft 1, and two other ring gemrs 3 and 6 with the same number of Jinternal teeth as on the rings 4 and 5 are mounted in housing 2. In the cavities of these ring Sears, identical Ooils 7 are placed. There is a gap between the tooth Card 1/5 21824 5/115/61/000/004/002/010 Now angle-measurin4 table... B129/B206 tips of the shaft 4zd housing. The ring Sears are arranged in such a way that at a turm of the shaft at the moment when the tooth tips of the ring 4 reach those of ring 3, the tooth tips of 5 reach the cavities of ring 6. At this soment, the resistance Z in the coil of ring 3 becomes a maximum aild in the coil of ring 6 a minimum. At a further turn of shaft 1, the r4sistance Z gets bigger in the coil of ring 6 and smaller in the coil of ring 3. The difference of the coil resistances can be determined by means of the ordinary differential circuit diagram. The difference of the voltage drops, as a function of the angle of rotation of the shaft, changea according to the sine law with the period 2x I z being the number of teeth z of the ring. The basic error sources of the inductive angle-measuring table aret a) error in the pitch of the shaft and housing, b) axial dis- placement of the rings on the shaft with reference to the rings of the housing , ") back'Amah of the teeth on the shaft, d) fluctuations of the mains volt4go (voltage, form and frequency of the current), e) error of the method for the determi4ation of the zero points. Pig. 4 shows a diagram of the angle-measurivg table. On a body 1, two crown gears 2 with 360 teeth each are mounted. The upper one can be adjusted relatively to the lower Card 2/5 21824 S/115/61/000/004/002/010 ,New angle-measuring table... B129/B206 one'. Two riM gears 7 with )60 teeth each are mounted on the shaft drive- 3. A rod 4 carrying a disk 5 is mounted in the cylindrical bore of shaft 3. At the upper end of shaft 3, a lever arm 6 is mounted adjustablyl and at its end, a linear scale with a measuring microscope is arranged at a distance of 412.5 mm from the shaft axis. Fig- 5 shows the diagram of the zero indicator, developed for the angle-measuring table. A differ- ential bridge consists of the two coils of the supply transformer TpI and the two coils of the inductive measuring instrument. The voltage of the diagonal ofthis bridge is amplified and filtered. A turn of the shaft of the angle-meas%zring instrument by 0.25" causes a deflection of the micro- amneter pointer by one division U microamperes). The zero indication of the inEtrument does not change at fluctuations of the supply voltage by 1054. A check of the measurement error for a full turn showed that the error did not exceed 5.3". It is so far the first book published, dealing with telemetering and a.4atomtttion of hydTonate-arological measurement. It consists of 5 obapters, & conclusion and a bibliography with 46 references. The first chapter provides a theoretical foundation for the new manometric princiyle of water-level measuring, and a descrip- tion follows of the yerformance and arrangement of the tele- -Caugs equipment UDV-1 without a float (suggested by the au+hor of the book and built in 1951 with the co-operation of V. A. Vlzi+ogrado*). It is suggested to work out a ground water level gauge based on th principle of UDV-1. Chapter Two describes a Card 1/2 morcury telethermLeter (suggested by the author of the book *A. M. Dimaksyain. Nerw Rydrometoorological. Tol*xetoring BOV/50-59-3-20/24 Instruments. The thermometer elimi- nates subjective errors on part uf the observer and makes it possible to observe, the hygrometric condition from a distance, under spplion.tion of the psychrometric principle. Chapter Three describes the tole-poyahrometor (suggested by the author of the book and worked oiLt with the co-operation of ff. To. Zhostovskiy) fox the measurement of the absolute and relative humid-ity at temperatures above zero. Chapter Your deals with two anemometers by 11. Yo. Zhostovskiy and 001 that had no' been described earli- er. PU411y, some deficiencies found in the book are pointed out.
