I Abstract: It was established that, the reaction botwoon phosphorus pontachloride
and N-mothylanthrapyridone commences not only at 1800C 'but also at lower
i tomporatures; in chlorobenzeno at 1300C a crystalline substance which analysis
found to corresNnd to the product of tho association of a M010CUIG Of
phosphorus pontachloride to a molecule of N-mothylanthrapyridone, cou3d be
isolatod; this substance ims structurally idontified as 2-totrachlorophc,3phyoxy-.
I 3-mothy1-7-oxo-?,1T-dibenzff-, ig isoquinolinium chloride and it readily reacts
1 with primary ardnos, forming the corresponding 2-iminor. of N-mothylanthra-
pyridone. By contrast, at 1800C the reaction between phosphorus pentachloride,
and N-mothylanthrapyri4one results in the formation of 2-chloroanthrapyridino.
