ABSTRACT It is known that the tropolones which have no substituents in the
position 5 easily combine with diazonium salte.Usually arylazotro-
polones are the products of this reaction to which the here illust-
rated structure is adscribed. The authore,however,some years agol
found such properties of these compounds as were in contradiction
to the formula I. A more careful investigation leads to the conclu-
sion concerning their capacity of tautomeric transformations in the
tropoehinonhydrazonee. This discovered tautomerism is similar to
that of the 5-nitro-and 5-nitrosotro-polones as well as to that of
the aromatic oxyazo compounds. The first results of the investiga-
tion-ot tautomerism are the material of this report.The inyestige-
tion was carried out with a group of 5-arylazotropolonce(IV)which
was obtained by the azo-combination of corresponding tropolones(iii)
with diazo ealts.The inclination of these compounds to reaction in
the tautomeric model V was discovered in consequence of their capa-
city of easy interaction with o-phenylendiamine.On this occasion
chinoxaline derivates (VI) are formed which as is known,is not the
case with tropolones themselves. On the other hand it turned out
that arylazatropolones IV g-IV e very easily (e.lready on the occa-

in position 3.On this occasion they change into corresponding 5-ar-
ylazo-4-carboxylmethyl tropolonea(VII)Ithis reaction does not take
place in the case of the initial tropolon(lIIg),in the case of the
tautomeric models V g-V e,however,absolutely natural,where the se-
paratable carboxyl group is in a 2-position with respect to one of
the carbonyl groups.Finally it was found that on the occasion of
the transformation of the arylazotropolones IVg-IVe into acids(VII)
and also directly from the latter,slightly neutral compounds(VIII)
are formed as a consequence of closing the heterocycle of the tro-
pochinonhydrazon forms of the arylazotropolones.The knowledge about
the tropochlrionhydrazon tautomerism of the arylazotropolones li-i~:tll
which were obtained by chemical investigation could be confirmed
spectroacopioally.The capacity of the arylazotropolones for the a-
bove discussed tautomerism was recently noticed by Nozoe who also

diamine.In the experimental part the usual data concerning the pro-
duction methods and the constants of the substances in question are

Abstract In 22 patients with brucellosis there were noted on the
EEG: electric at3symetry of t1ae brain, irregular alpha-
rhythm with tendency to spontaneous depression, interinit-
tent with beta-rhythm and fast asynchronic oscillatiois.
In acute and sub.-acute forms of the disease, the tendency
to irritation (frontal and antero-basal regions) and nor-
mlization of alpha-rhythm wider the influence of

nitroglycerin were observed. In chroiiic forms, the
reduced alpha-rh~thm arid fast oscillations in all re-
gions of the brai,n were not removed by nitroglycerin.
In organic affections of CNS, dysrhythmias of focal
character took place. Apparently, at the basis of the
changes observed in brucellosis, primarily developinG
in the subcortical centers, there lies a disturbance of

ABSTRACT: Two experiments were conducted, prior to which two
experimental groups of white male rats weighing 150-200 g underwent
thyroidectomies including partial removal of the parathyroid gland.
Two weeks after the operation the animals' weights were stabilized,
body temperatures decreased by an average of 1,40., and the number of
erythrocytes decreased by approximately 16%. In the first experimentp
-30 experimental animals and 25 control animals were X-irradiated
(RUM-3 unit, 180 kvq 20 map filter 0.5 mm Cu + 1,0 mm Al, skin focal

length 40 em, dose rate in air 42.9 r/min) with single 600 r doses
one month after the operation. In the second experiment 10 experi-
mental animals and 10 control animals were X-irradiated under the same
conditions with single 300 r doses two weeks after the operation.
Weight changep blood indices# and mortality rate were used for radia-
tion damage evaluation. Experimental animals irradiated with 600 r
develop anemia earlier and have a higher mortality rate than control
animals. In the development of leukopenis, no significant difference
Is found between experimental animals irradiated with 600 or 300 r
doses and control animals* Regeneration of erythrocytes proceeds
more slowly in experimental animals irradiated with.300 r than in
control animalao Pat dystrophy of the liver which develope on the 7th
or 8th day Is less marked in experimental animals irradiated with 600

large time constant and zero initial mismatch gives an
average time to disruption of synchronization which is
independent of the time constant and increases with a

Abstract Presidium of the Academy of medical sciences WSR held an expanded session
jointly with the Ministry of Health RSFSR on March 22-25, 1955 in Novosi-
birsk. More than 20 reports were read on the subject of preventive medical
aid In areas where virgin and idle lands are under cultivation. Over 450
delegates representing the 25 oblasts of the Russian Federation attended.
Deputy Minister of Health RSFSR, A. F. Serenko, read the main report. He
stressed the need for Prevention of occupational diseases and extension of
the dispensary system to sovkhoz and WS-workers of virgin and idle Lands.
Prof. L. M. Maslova (Oinsk) spoke on sanitary characterictics of sources
of water supply in sou*.hern Omakaya Oblast; Prof. S. M. Dracheva dis-
cussed the 'question of water supply in sovkhozes and MM of Altay Kray.

Abstract : Methods, based on years of epidemiological experience, of protect-
ing persons who will remain for short perlods, for prolonged periods,
or continuous3y in te:rritories where natural reservoirs of diseases
such as tick-borne Northern-Asiatic rickettsiosis, tularemia,
Q-fever, hezwrrhagic fever, or tick-borne encephalitid are described.
These measures have been, and are being used in Siberia, the North-
ern Caucasus, Northern Kazakh tan, and along the Volga. Modes of
attire, chemical insecticides, and agricultural techniques em-
ployed to eliminate rodent and acarina infestations are discussed.
The effec:ts of terraln and climate on natural reservoirs are men-
tioned. No references are cited.

In 1945, in (Oct of Japanese encephalitis, there was a campaign against mosquito
larvae of the genera Aedes and Culex. The work was carried out in the early spring
(beginning of May) in an area of 50 sq. km. Bog was treated with benzene hexa-
chloride and DDT in rnounts of 0.2-0.5 g. of active substance per square rnetre of
