Occupied by an MVD unit of about 300 men in late 1950. there, components of the 17th Lithuanian Div, which were said to include also arm- ored vehicles, were located in Padbrodzie in the spring of 1951. The areas around Raseiniai, Jurbarkas, Smalininkai,and Skirsnemune were considered to be the sections of Lithuania most affected by partisan activities. Fairly large MVD de- tachments, reinforced by istrebiteli, were located in these areas. The same applied to the Alycus-Mariampole {5} -23N,24-0tE) area, which was referred to as Restricted Zone No 2. Inductions I According to rumors, they were assigned to a Lithuanian division which was allegedly located in the Gorkiy (56-20N, 43-55E) area. to participate in four- or five-day courses. Members of the 1930 class,including the members of the istrebiteli previously exempted frcm active military duty, were inducted in spring. The 1931 and 1932 classes, which were said to be.scheduled for induction in the fall of 1951, were inducted at the same time. From 35-to J0- year-old men were consecutively inducted Up to May 1951, detach- ments of the Lithuanian militia wearing dark- -blue uniforms were located in Kalvarija (54-25N,23-13E), Simnas (54-23N,23-38E), and Krosna (54-22N, 23-31E). The number of the Soviet troops in the billets was estimated at 100 men. Some soldiers wore blue-bordered epaulets and some black ones.
