MEMORANDUM FOR: Executive Assistant to the Director
Mr. Elder
Request from the Joint Committee on
Atomic Energy for Briefing on Chinese
Communist Nuclear Energy Program
1.1 OSI, reported to me this morning a request
he received by telephone today from John Conway, Staff Director of
the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy. Mr. Conway told] 25X1
that, at the request of Senator Pastore, he was asking us for a report,
for the use of Committee members, on the Chinese Communist nuclear
energy program,
dvised Mr. Conway that, as he could appreciate,
we were snowed under with priority work but that he would look into
the matter and someone would be in touch with him.
pointed out to me that a complete report on this subject wouIcL invo ve
special classifications which he would imagine we would not want to
leave on file with the Joint Committee.) said that an
alternative to the written report would be a briefing by the Director
of the members.
3. We will raise this at the 9: 00 meeting but thought the
Director might like to know of this in the event he sees Senator Pastore
at the White House briefing this afternoon.
