Items for the Daily Log - 9 February 1953
1. Mr. Dulles assumed the title of Acting Director of Central Intel-
ligence today, General Smith having today taken the oath of office as Un-
der Secretary of State.
2. Discussed with Mr. Dulles proposed steps to be taken in connection
with his confirmation and have set up an appointment with Senator Salton-
stall for 10 February.
3. The office of Roger Jones, Assistant Director of the Bureau of the
Budget, informs me that they have no objections to the proposed legislation
for General Cabell and its accopmpanying letter.
b. Mr. Arens of the Staff of the Immigration Subcommittee of the
Senate Judiciary Committee informs me that Senator Watkins, the Subcommit-
tee Chairman, wishes us to make certain alipw available to them, and Mr.
Arens will discuss it with me further.
