American
REPORT
review of religion
and american power
American Report examines the moral issues
of war, peace and social justice raised by
the misuse of American power at home and
abroad.
Our own independent worldwide news
sources provide factual reporting and in-
sightful commentary, often at great risk
and in the face of official silence: courage-
ous investigative journalism.
As the first national newspaper of respon-
sible dissent, in the form of a weekly tabloid,
American Report explores the real rela-
tionships between American power and the
moral imperatives of a truly free and equal
society.
American Report -
? Criticizes the "arrogance of power" in
all its forms, confronting political lead-
ers with the practical consequences of
their policies and platforms;
? Informs subscribers of the best and
most current thinking of recognized
spokemen for peace, including respon-
sible counter-argumentsto the military-
industrial establishment, and the posi-
tive statement of new values and social
goals;
? Surveys the range of social, cultural,
economic and political problems and
opportunities in the US and the Third
World, pinpointing ways for readers to
become engaged in a common struggle ;
? Reports specific activities of socially
concerned organizations nationally,
serving as the communications nerve
center of the movements for peace and
justice.

Contributors to American Report show a rich
variety of viewpoints and backgrounds. Some
have personal knowledge of life under the rain
of American bombs, others are the originators
of important peace initiatives ... all are highly
readable and relevant.

To me the valuable thing about American
Report is that it gives theothersideofthe
news-that is to say, the side that seldom
gets published.
Constant help ... civilized and yet tough.

It does provide in one place more material
than I find elsewhere on the war in Indo-
china, other foreign policy issues that are
related to the war, what is happening in
other Asian countries, and ecumenical
responses to this complex of issues.

For all the news that's fit to print-check
out the New York Times. What's more
important is to be a regular reader of one
of the few papers fit to print the news,
that's American Report!

The weapons in the arsenal of peace are frequently no more than good intentions and
good will. AMERICAN REPORT, the publication of Clergy and Laymen Concerned,
suddenly changes all that. Now, with a subscription to this one weekly newspaper,
you have available a whole battery of proven "peace aids" to help you as a citizen,
as an activist, or as an organization leader.
First, AMERICAN REPORT plugs you into a national communications network focussed
on the aims, programs, activities and results of peace organizations. Hundreds of
them: local, state, regional, national and international. Clergy and Laymen Con-
cerned has concentrated on communications for peace and is in a unique position to
report who is doing what.
Then there is AMERICAN REPORT's unmatched coverage of the continuing war, and
efforts to stop our involvement in it -- such as the campaign now being mounted
against Honeywell to get out of the manufacture of anti-personnel weapons. These
are activities in which you will want to do your share. You can't, unless you know
about them, and whom to contact to take part.
A subscription to AMERICAN REPORT will automatically bring you up to date on the
important new "Unsell the War" campaign, which has received the dedicated support
of people in advertising and the media. Your voice can be heard more effectively
using "Unsell" materials in your community. They are professional, persuasive and
proven in use!
Your reading will tell you how to play your part in bringing the peace message to
thousands of local radio listeners, by supporting "American Report Radio" -- an
exciting venture that can fight war lies and change minds about the war. You and
your friends, through the right steps taken locally, can get this program on the air
in your community.
Finally, your subscription puts you in touch with the special Literature Services of
Clergy and Laymen Concerned, where you can purchase inexpensive pamphlets and
other study materials, singly or in bulk, for use in leafletting campaigns, study-ins,
personal reading and local events.
Beyond all these special services to peacemakers, AMERICAN REPORT is a first-
class newspaper, bringing you the "other side of the news" not only about the war-
