SUBJECT: Briefing of Moose and Lowenstein, Staff
Consultants to Senator Symington's Sub-
Committee on U. S. Security Agreements and
Commitments Abroad, 21 March 1973

1. An informal briefing of Messrs. Moose and Lowenstein
was held from 0930 to 1100 hours in response to a letter from
Senator Symington to the Director requesting assistance in connec-
tion with his staff consultants' forthcoming trip. We opened the
conversation on the note that since we were not specifically aware
of the topics they would be interested in discussing, we had not
prepared a formal briefing. It was agreed that we would respond
to questions they had uppermost in their minds in connection with
their trip.
2. The discussions covered a wide range of topics,

evidence to support accurate analysis due to a lack of regular
and timely photo reconnaissance of the supply system. We said
we would take a look at what we had but doubted that we would have
any firm figures or data to give them. Hopefully, they will not
press this point.

4. The session ended on a cordial note with our visitors
expressing appreciation which they later reiterated to
as he was escorting them out of the building.
