I. NEW ACTIVITIES
1. Office of the Actin Chief, Asse ssment and Evaluation Staff
a. The memorandum from the DD/P concerning psychological
assessments has been received and is being reviewed. Recommenda-
tions concerning it will be furnished later in the week.
b. Procedures for reporting on cases to the Personnel
Selection Panel are being prepared, and the first four cases
are scheduled for presentation on Friday, 6 February.
c. The monthly report for January is attached.

Training Evaluation Branch
b. attended by invitation a two-hour session of
the "Live Problem" currently being conducted by the BOC in order
to assist in the development of evaluations pertinent to that
type of problem.
c. A list of the current student failures in the BOC has been
received and a memorandum concerning these failures has been sent
to the Training Liaison Officer involved.

3. Research and Validation Branch
a. ;Arrangements have been made the of t1 Person- 25x1
nel Testing Division, for a meeting with Mr. M. M. Mandell, of the
Civil Service Commission, for conferences concerning a research
study of the adjustment and effectiveness of U. S; Government per-
sonnel in overseas assignments. The study is being carried out
jointly by the Civil Service Commission, the Mutual Security Agency,
the State Department, and the Air Force. We have been furnished
with a preliminary report of this project, which is still in progress,
and the purpose of the discussions with Mr. Mandell will be to learn
more about their findings, to arrange for further monitoring of the
study, and to gather information upon which to base any recommenda-
tions concerning the Agency's utilization of the results.
II. OLD ACTIVITIES
1. Training Evaluation Branch
a. Work is continuing on the designing of a system of record-
ing Training Evaluations on IBM cards.
b. Work has been completed on the breakdown of grades for the
past ten classes of BOC and eight classes of 00. A tabular pre-
sentation of this material is in preparation.
2. Research and Validation Branch
a. Further computational work is in progress on Project No. 7,
Validation of a Pre-Training Battery; Project No. 8, Intercorrela-
tions of Objective Assessment Tests; and Project No. 11, A Study
of the Reliability and Intercorrelations of Student Ratings and
Instructor Evaluations of PM Students.
