This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CIA Panel. The series is being
coordinated, published and disseminated. by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis for this particular re-
port was performed. by the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (II) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage /maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (M) driver training areas, (N) tank/
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing areas or courses, (S) special training facilities, (T) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Petropavlovsk Headquarters 22d Motorized
Rifle Division is located 13 kilometers (km)
east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy (Figure 1).
The installation covers approximately 445
acres and contains 2 administration buildings,
2 administration/support buildings, 4 probable
barracks, 55 quarters-type housing units, 16
storage buildings, 1 storage shed, 2 possible
vehicle sheds, 29 support buildings, and 6
support/range control buildings. The instal-
lation also contains 1 athletic field, 1 parade
field, 1 motor park, 1 driver-training circuit,
and 1 tank/assault-gun firing range (Figures 2
and 3).
A secondary, probably all-weather road
connects this installation with Petropavlovsk.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas
Area bl contains 34 large quarters-type
housing units and 21 small quarters-type hous-
ing units (not shown on sketch).
Area D2 contains an administration build-
ing, 2 administration/support buildings, 4 proba-
ble barracks, and 6 support buildings.
General Storage Areas
Area El contains 6 storage buildings and
6 support buildings.
Area E2 contains 2 storage buidings and
5 support buildings.
Area E3 is probably fenced and contains 2
storage buildings and 4 support buildings.
Area E4 contains 6 storage buildings, a
storage shed, and 6 support buildings.
The installation has been covered by .
KEYHOLE missions of interpretable quality.
Com arative anal sis of the photography from
indicates that
the barracks area was probably constructed
prior to and was positively con-
structed by The barracks
area appeared active on all coverage. The
only significant change at this installation was
the addition of a tank/assault- un firing range
between The
overall level of track activity has remained
constant from light to medium.
INSTALLATION
POL Storage Areas
Three POL storage areas are located in
Petropavlovsk.
Other Buildings
An administration building, a support build-
ing, and 6 support/range control buildings are
dispersed throughout the installation.
Equipment Storage/ Maintenance Area
Area J contains 2 possible vehicle sheds,
both 50 by 320 feet, a motor park, 320 by 520
feet, and a support building.
Athletic Fields
Area K1 is an athletic field.
Area K2 is a parade field.
Small-Arms Firing Ranges
The firing ranges reported in NPIC/R-
44/64 cannot be confirmed.
