11. (Unclassified -GLC) Mr. John A. Beekman, Field Representa-
tive for Representative Richard T. Hanna (D. , Calif. ), called from Anaheim,
California, to get the first name of a who, according to
Mr. Beekman's information, is the CIA representative on the "U.S. Overseas
Mission" in Vientiane. Since Mr. Beekman's call was received after normal
working hours I told him I would look into this and be in touch with Mr. Hanna's
Washington office tomorrow. Beekman said he need not receive any confir-
mation of his information so long as he could have s first name
since he was sending a letter to him.
12. (Unclassified -GLC) Talked to Kenneth Harkins, Counsel for
the special House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee on the impeachment
of Justice Douglas. I advised Harkins that I had reviewed the situation with
the Director and we felt that the Director's unclassified letter and Mr. Houston's
classified memorandum constitute a reasonable response to Chairman Celler's
letter and that we would be willing to make the memorandum available to
the subcommittee if we received assurances. that its security classification
would be respected. Harkins said he would convey this to the subcommittee
and added that he was quite certain the Republican members would go through
the ceiling. I asked Harkins to convey to the subcommittee our genuine
interest in being cooperative within the bounds of the responsibilities placed
upon the Director for the protection of intelligence sources and methods. He
said he would do this.
13. (Internal Use Only - JGO) Met with Mr. Daniel Manelli,
Staff Attorney, Special Subcommittee on Investigations, House Committee
on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, and received from him a Committee
Print o t e report "Network News Documentary Practices--CBS 'Project
Nassau. "' Mr. Manelli indicated the Committee has voted approval of
the report. It will be submitted to the House today.. OGC,
has been advised.
