3. Colonel Hammond called on behalf' of
Assistant Secretary of Defense for Legislative Affairs Jack Marsh and
asked if we could provide them with an up-to-date biography on Mr. James
Schlesinger. I told him we could give them a copy of the biography the
Director used in his confirmation hearings as DCI and they will pick it
up tomorrow.
4? Received a call from
in the Map Library, who told me that a request had been received from
TOPOCOM for 500 copies of our page-size map #59547, Indochina, for
use in connection with an appropriations bill in Congress today to be
delivered directly to Representative Gerald Ford's (R. , Mich.) office.
I concurred in the delivery.
5. After checking with
and DD/I, a meeting was scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Tuesday,
15 May, to brief Senator Charles McC. Mathias (R. Md.) on recent changes
in Soviet hierarchy.
6. Received a call from Mike Finley,
Inter-American Affairs Subcommittee staff, House Foreign Affairs Committee,
who asked if we would provide such information that might be available for
Chairman Dante Fascell concerning a recent news article that the Panamanian
government is seeking Middle East money (Libya and Saudi Arabia) to build
a new canal. Fascell believed that the article was a recent column by
Robert S. Allen.
7. Talked to Bill Ashworth, Arms Control,
International Law and Organization Subcommittee staff, Senate Foreign
Relations Committee, who told me that Chairman Muskie's letter would
be ready to be picked up tomorrow. Unless changes result from a meeting
scheduled with Chairman Muskie later in the day, the Committee would
like to schedule 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, 23 May, if that fits into the Agency
schedule.
