REFERENCES he building on the corner of Chungshanlu (0022/1472/ 6424) and Hsinhsinglu (2450/5281/6424) was being used as a barracks. The sketch in Appendix A shows the exact location of this building. The following points were noted: a. The building was formerly the shrine of the Lfl family (2651/3044/ 1129/1350/4379)., The grounds measured approximately 230 x 200 feet, and the building, 220 x 117 x 45 feet. b. About 50 soldiers were present, some playing a ball game and others sitting on the stone steps at the front of the building. c. A uniformed sentry, armed with a rifle with bayonet, was on duty at the entrance to the building. d. A mail box was hanging on one side of the front entrance. The box measured approximately 12 x 6 x 3 inches and was painted green with 166 hsin heiang (0207/4630) (mail box) painted in white. e~ Six guns were seen inside the building. They measured approximately 12 feet from breech to muzzle and were covered with canvas, Each was mounted on two wheels with pneumatic tires about four and one- half feet in diameter. The visible parts of the gun were painted dark green. f. A dilapidated building at the rear of the main building housed about 20 mules which were being fed by soldiers. As of 14 April the building which was formerly the shrine of the HUNG family (3163/3044/1129/1350/4379) in Juiptinglu (3843/1627/642+), Swatow, was being used as a barracks. The sketch contained in Appendix B shows the exact location of this building. The following points of interest were noted: a. The building measured approximately 250 x 140 x 38 feet, b. A uniformed $entry,.armed with a rifle with bayonet, was on duty at the entrance to the building. c.. A mail box was hanging on one side of the front entrance. It measured approximately 12 x 6 x 3 inches and was painted green with 1.54+ hsin hsiang painted in white. d. A number of soldiers, women, and children were seen inside the building. e. A shed behind the building housed about 20 horses, which were being tended by about eight soldiers.
