This re ort supersedes one entitled Sobolekovo-Chishmy TV/Microwave
Relay Lines eptember 1969). A restudy of the area between
Chistopol an is y revealed 13 microwave facilities, nine of which appear
to be part of the main line and four of which probably are not. Several
towers previously reported as part of the micro ave facilities probably
are oil well derricks.
25X1
A review of the most recent) (photography that covers the entire 25X1
area has revealed that a microwave line exists
from Chistopol east to Chishmy, in an area centered approximately 150
nautical miles (nm) southeast of Kazan, USSR. Locations of the nine facil-
ities, which are part of the relay line are shown in Figure 1 (items 1-9).
Previously, 18 microwave facilities had been reported as forming a relay
line from Sobolekovo to Chishmy, but reanalysis indicates that nine of the
towers sighted probably are oil well derricks.
In addition, microwave facilities at Kargoli and Shchegurcha (items
10 and 11) are approximately parallel to the main line. These facilities
are associated with oil pumping stations and probably control part of a
series of pipeline pumping stations. The stations at Sheremetyevka and
Sobolekovo (items 12 and 13) probably are part of a branch microwave line
and may be designed to serve an area being built up with new industrial
complexes.
The photography, although of small scale, was of good interpretability.
The small scale of the photography precluded description of electronics
equipment by size, type, and orientation.
