Analysis of Selected Soviet Air Warning Radar Facilities
(NPIC Project 250519A E)
1. This memorandum, the fourth of a series in response to the
referenced requirement, describes four of 68 selected Soviet air warning
(AW) radar facilities. Each of the facilities discussed has been analyzed
on all available high-resolution KEYHOLE photography. Annotated photo-
graphs and chronological tables are forwarded as attachments, and include
the number and types of radars observed at individual facilities on
25X1 2. -The selected AW radar facilities included in this memorandum are:
a. Pallasovka TALL KING AW Radar Facility

The Pallasovka TALL KING AW Radar Facility (Attachments 1 and
1-A), located 1 nautical mile (nm) east of Pallasovka, USSR, consists
of one TALL KING radar, one generator building, and three small sup-
port buildings. No housing or barracks units are identified at the
facility.
b. Pirsagat AW Radar Facility

The Pirsagat AW Radar Facility (Attachments 2 and 2-A located f
1.8 nm south-southwest of Pirsagat Airfield consists 25X1
of one BAR LOCK radar, one ROCK CAKE/STONE C radar, one SQUAT EYE
radar, one FORK REST-type very high frequency (VHF) antenna, three
earth covered drive-in revetments, three revetments, one control
building, one administration building, and six support buildings.
No housing or barracks units are identified at the facility.
c. Baku AW Radar Facilit

The Baku AW Radar Facility (Attachments 3 and 3-A), located 18
nm east of Baku, USSR, consists of a radar area and a support area.

SUBJECT: Analysis of Selected Soviet Air Warning Radar Facilities
The radar area contains one BAR LOCK radar, one THIN SKIN radar, two
SPOON REST radars, two SIDE NET radars, two BACK NET radars, one re-
vetted control building, two earth-covered drive-in revetments, two
open-vehicle revetments, and three support buildings. The support
area for the facility is located 1 nm to the east, and contains ap-
proximately 25 buildings, le of which are probably housing or barracks
units with a total floorspace of 5,096 square meters (54,830 square
feet). The Baku SAM Site B09-2 is located 1 nm west
of the Baku AW Radar Facility, and both appear to share the same
support area.
d. Dombarovskiy TALL KING AW Radar Facility
50-47-20N 059-32-DOE,
Dombarovskiy TALL KING AW Radar Facility (Attachments 4 and
.4-A), located 2 nm north of Dombarovskiy, USSR, consists of one BAR
LOCK radar, one TALL KING radar, two SIDE NET radars, one control
building, six unoccupied radar mounds, five electronics vans, two
vehicle revetments, and one covered revetment at the base of the BAR
LOCK radar mound. The adhacent support area consists of 29 buildings,
eight of which are probably housing or barracks units with a total
floorspace of 4 550 square meters (48,945 square feet). The Dombarov-
skiy Airfield is located 1 nm north of the AW facility
and both appear to share a same support area.
