Gusev MRBM Launch Areas No 1 and 2 were first observedi how- ever, their status could not be determined at that time because of partial cloud cover over each site They were considered e complete Launch Area No 1 is 21.0 nautical miles (nm) north-northwest of the fixed field site and Launch Area No 2 is 23.8 nm north-northwest of the site. They are both connected to the fixed field site by road. The fixed field site (Figure 1) is located in a rolling, wooded area 14.0 nm south-southeast of Gusev and 1.6 nm north of the border of Poland. It was not present on hotography^ and was first and three launch positions interconnected by a road network (Fi re 2). Later photography revealed another launch position had been added. The azimuth of the launch positions is approximately 220 de- grees, compared with azimuths of approx- imately 250 decrees for Launch Areas No 1 and 2. Photography revea e no ur er c ange in the site. There were no vehicles or equipment discernible at this fixed field site on any of the referenced photographic missions. Gusev MRBM Launch Areas No 1 and 2prob- ably use the rail yards in Gusev for a rail- to-road transfer point. A rail spur 1.6 nm northeast of the fixed field site could serve as its rail-to-road transfer point. Good roads connect the transfer points with the site. 25X1 ? 25X1 0 TOP SECRET %IA PS OR CH AR TS SAC. US Air Target Chart, Series 200, Sheet 0166-611L, 3d ed, Aug 62, scale 1:200,000 (SECRET) SAC.
