This report is one in a series on Soviet Ground Force and Logistic
installations being prepared for a DIA/CI.\ Panel..=The series is being.
coordinated, published and disseminated by NPIC. The photographic
analysis is being performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group,
the CIA Photographic Intelligence Division (NPIC), and the Production;
Center 1Pla (DIA). The photographic analysis foi' this particular re-
port was performed by the NPIC Photographic Analysis Group.
In the interest of uniformity, the titles and letter designators for
the facilities observed at these installations are identical with those
appearing in the project requirement. When a specific facility is not
observed both its title and letter designator are omitted in the report.
Titles and letter designators for the various facilities are as
follows: (A) railroad service, (B) road service, (C) landing strips,
(D) administrative and troop housing areas, (E) storage areas, (F.) am-
munition storage areas, (G) POL storage areas, (H) other buildings and
facilities, (J) equipment storage/maintenance areas, (K) athletic fields,
(L) small arms firing ranges, (N1) driver training areas, '(N) tank!
assault gun firing ranges, (P) flat trajectory firing ranges, (Q) artillery
emplacements (batteries), (R) infantry or combined arms field train-
ing area or courses, (S) special training facilities, (1) unidentified
facilities or tracking activity.

Kostroma Army Barracks East is located
north of the Volga ,?River and in-the eastern
section of Kostroma (Figure 1).
This installation covers approximately 160
acres and contains 2 multistory administration
buildings, 5 multistory barracks, 23 storage
buildings, 25 support buildings, one vehicle
maintenance building, 3 vehicle sheds, 5 prob-

All-weather roads provide access to Kos-

able athletic field (Figures 2 and 3).

POL Storage Area
Kostroma Petroleum Storage South (BE No 25X1A
is' located at-5T-44-16N 040-57-
58E and contains 8 small and 2 medium POL
storage tanks.
Administration and Troop Housing Areas
Area D1 contains a T-shaped,, multistory
administration building.
Area D2 contains one multistory adminis-
tration building, 3 multistory barracks, 1 stor-
age building, and 1 support building.
Area D3 contains 2 multistory barracks
and 2 storage buildings.
General Storage Areas
Area El :contains 14 storage buildings and
22 support buildings..
Area E2 contains 4 storage buildings and 1
support building.
Equipment Storage/ Maintenance Areas
Area J1 contains a 180- by 40-foot vehicle
shed and a vehicle park.
Area J2 contains one 220- by 50-foot ve-
hicle maintenance building, two 150- by 40-foot
vehicle sheds, and a support building.
- Area J3 contains 5 probable vehicle sheds
(three 110 by 40 feet, one 150 by 45 feet, and one
110 by 45 feet), and 2 storage buildings.
Area K is a probable athletic field.'
