Approximately two mechanized corps participated in late Sptember

exercises were directed by a command staff from Schwerin which
apparently transferred to Parchim afterwards. The problem called
for an attack of mixed troops against a highly r obile foe, the
latter being represented by armored troops who bore the insignia
2. Special emphasis was placed on cover against air attack and on the
use of AA. All simulated attacks were made by shock troops in
rifle company strength with six to t:n supporting tanks. Use of
roads Baas completely disregarded and Y in fact,
some roads were
ripped up by bulldozers to prevent their use, At the finish of
the maneuvers in early October. the tops
leaving only SPCA and border control units at a. forest camp 2.5
