Week Ending 26 August 1977
1. (U/AIUO) Retirement Activity: These figures show
scheduled retirement activity for the period 10 August -
30 September 1977. The figures in the clear show totals;
the figures in parentheses represent persons who have opted
for options of discontinued service of "involuntary" retire-
ment and are included in the total figures. Thus, of 30
persons who are to go by 30 September, six are going under
the "liberal" options.

2. (C) Commo Recruitment: Field- and Washington-
based recruiters have been alerted to our need for 120
telecommunications specialists (radio operators) through
CY 1978. Military sources and veterans' counselors at
the U. S. employment offices will be contacted and
selective advertising will be launched by the recruiters.
OC officials plan to brief our recruiters during our
September conference with regard to the change in standards
for Morse Code skills.
25X1A 3. (U) Reflections: Recruiter reports
that Daniel Sch rr; ormer CBS television reporter, spoke at
the Headline Club luncheon in Chicago on Thursday, 11 August. He is

reported to have made the observation during his talk that he
has had 18 months to reflect and talk around the country and
to listen a little too. He said that he discovered that the
public feels that those in the news media do not hesitate
to corrupt for fun and profit.
4. (U) Recruitment Exhibit! The Deputy Chief
Recruitment Div isi on 25X1A
of NPIC/Graphics have been working on the development of a
recruiting exhibit which could be used to advantage at the
many job fairs in which we participate. The exhibit is now
in its final stages of construction and will be ready for
display in time for the Recruiters' Conference on 19 September.
It is designed for total portability and ease of set-up and
disassembly.
S. (U) Minority Recruitment: Recruiter 25X1A
reports t at he was well received in New Orleans
recently where he addressed a group from the Minority Women
Employment Program. Project Director Lynn Sarpy wrote to him
saying that his talk was informative and that it has promoted.
.a better understanding of the Agency.
6. (U) Summary Report Employee Benefits Week:
Employee Benefits Week ended on Friday, 19 August, and
appears to have been well received by Agency employees.
Representatives from our retirement, insurance and personal
affairs activities manned the booth each day from 11:30 to
1:30 to answer questions and provide literature on a wide
variety of benefit subjects. Employee interest was so active
at times that it became impossible to keep an accurate
count of the number of persons who raised specific questions.
Twenty-two different pieces of literature were made available,
and employees took over 6,000 copies.
7. (U) Assistant Air Controllers' Strike: According
to TWA and PAA,ltt_e senior air traffic controllers in London
will work flights in and out of England in case of a walkout
by assistant controllers. They estimate that 40 percent of
flights will be on time, with 60 percent delayed. In the
case of planes landing in another country, ground personnel
will arrange transportation to London at no expense to
passengers.
8. (U/AIUO) Summer-Only Employees: An additional group
of Summer-Only employees approximately 45) will be processed-
out today, 26 August, in the auditorium. Last week 47 Summer
Only's processed out.

9. (C) Special Awards Ceremony: On Tuesday, 23 August,
at 11:30 a.m. a special ceremony was held in the Headquarters
auditorium. At this time the DD/S?,T, Mr. Leslie Dirks,
presented two Intelligence Medals of Merit with Exceptional
Accomplishment Awards totalling $2,000; three Certificates
of Distinction with Exceptional Accomplishment Awards
totalling $1,500; six Certificates of Merit; and a Meritorious
Unit Citation to the Systems Procurement Branch/Office of
SIGINT Operations. These awards recognized the performances
of a group of employees from the former LA Division 25X1A
and the Office of Logistics who participated in a two-year
operation at an overseas station.

(U) The EAA Women's All-Star softball game will be
played at 5:45 p.m. on 1 September 1977.
