The military suer camp opened during April or May. The first group spent about one month in the camp after which the men returned to their units and other groups arrived. This continued until August when the camp closed. 4. 5. The depot was used for the handling of these groups and was only partially used for unloading materials for the Trudovaks. In 1953, groups began to arrive at the camp on 20 March and, by 28 April four such groups (from Ruse, Vidin, Gorna Oryakhovitsa, and Nova Zagora). In 1953 the groups arrived in 30-35 railroad cars and in 1952 the trains were even longer. Model "M" railroad cars were used for carrying vehicles, supplies, and weapons; Model "EF" railroad cars were used for the soldiers; and second-class passenger cars were used for officers. Together with the last group to arrive at the "Galata" camp, there were 30 guns with long, narrow barrels_ about two meters in length, mounted on pneumatic tires. The guns were covered with tarpaulin and each one was towed by a prime mover rich appeared to be of the "Breda" model. Each grow included at least 300 soldiers 6. 7. In addition to the trenches excavated in this area there were concrete fortifi- cations including "DOT" (Dulgovremenna Ogneva Tochka; Reinforced Concrete Pillbox) and "ZOT" (Zemna Ogneva Tochka; Earth Pillbox) fortifications. The "DOT" is a dug-out concrete fortification with a round shape and a diameter of 1.5 meters ,and a depth of 1.8 meters. It rises approximately 30-!0 centimeters above ground. Earth is spread over the top of the "DOT" so that it cannot be di stinguished from a distance of 25-30 meters. The walls are 30-40 centimeters thick and there are two embrasures approximately 50 centimeters long and 20 centimeters wide facing the b crder. The doors of "DOT" fortifications always face north and two or three trenches five meters in length lead up to them. As many as four persons may be in a "DOT". The door leads into a small room with wooden platforms for machine guns under the embrasures. 8. The "ZOT" fortification is also round, in concrete, and is 40-50 centimeters above ground, two meters in dianete.r, and 2.5 meters deep, with walls 50 centimeters thick. Inside there is an additional separating concrete wall for defense. Unlike the "DOT", the "ZOT" does not have horizontal embrasures but has only one opening 80 centimeters in diameter. The door is on the north side. One or more trenches lead from the pillbox to the main trench. "ZOTs" are located along the length of the main trenches. Fortifications in the Mezek Area there are at least 10 "DOTs" and 10 "ZOTs" in this area. A thick tangle of barbed wire, on stakes 30 centimeters high, covers an area five meters around the pillboxes. The barbed wire strands are thick enough to make it almost impossible to approach the pillboxes.
