From eight to ten tanks were sometimes observed. Officers known in- cluded Colonel Ilitsov (phonetic spelling) (fnu) and Lieutenant Colonel Pokrovskiy (fnu). A rumor said that a division headquarters was located in Kaunas and subordinate to a corps headquarters in Riga (56-57N,2t-07E). b. The unit was motorized and equipped with heavy tanks mounting muzzle brakes. c. Every year, from early May until October, the unit moved to a summer camp near Gaizuniai, about 30 km northeast of Kaunas, where the troops were quartered in two large hutments in the woods. The hutments were occupied exclusive- ly by units from Ka-ulas, where only a guard battalion had remained. Soldiers observed wore tank and artillery insignia, and red-bordered black epaulets. One of the two generals stationed in Kaunas was repeatedly seen. The officers, dependents were also quartered in the same summer camp.
