SUBJECT: Request from U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT
to Participate in Tenth Annual Survey
of National Leadership
1. Action Requested: Accept or decline request to
participate in U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT's tenth annual survey
of national leadership.
2. Background: U.S. NEWS &
WORLD REPORT, has requested that you answer the attached
questionnaire assessing the nation's leadership. This ques-
tionnaire reportedly is being sent to a limited number of
America's leaders. They allege that your name will not: be used
or even known unless you choose to sign the questionnaire and
give the publication permission to quote you in news stories
about the survey findings.
3. Recommendation: Decline to participate in this
survey. It would seem inappropriate to evaluate the Reagan
administration and your own performance. They claim there will
be no attribution, but once it is in their hands we would have
no control over its use. Indicate your preference and autho-
rize Public Affairs to respond on your behalf.
